Michael B. Jordan took home Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role, beating out a competitive lineup that included Timothée Chalamet for “Marty Supreme,” Leonardo DiCaprio for “One Battle After Another,” Ethan Hawke for “Blue Moon,” and Jesse Plemons for “Bugonia.”
Chalamet, who had already secured victories at the Critics Choice Awards and Golden Globe Awards, was widely viewed as the frontrunner. Instead, it was Jordan who emerged victorious.
The actor appeared overwhelmed as he stared down at his trophy, hands covering his face and mouth open in disbelief.
Inside The Shrine Auditorium and Expo Hall, the reactions were just as powerful. Chalamet stood and applauded alongside co-star Gwyneth Paltrow, while Jordan’s mother, Donna, looked stunned before grabbing her son’s shoulders in celebration.
Presenter Viola Davis also seemed taken aback when she opened the envelope, her jaw visibly dropping before announcing Jordan’s name and shouting in celebration.

The “Creed” star also admitted the win caught him off guard. “I don’t even know where to begin. I wasn’t expecting this at all,” he said.
Jordan revealed he was honored and privileged to be nominated in categories with movie stars and people he loved.
“I love, and I love their work and what they contribute to our craft and just rise to has been unbelievable. So, thank you for welcoming me in and making me feel seen,” he added.

Besides thanking his mom for the sacrifices she made toward his career, the actor also praised Ryan Coogler, for giving him the opportunity to showcase his talent. Jordan revealed that the director created a “safe place for us to find the truth.”

The Ryan Coogler-written and directed horror film edged out “Frankenstein,” “Hamnet,” “Marty Supreme,” and “One Battle After Another.”
The story follows twin brothers who return home seeking a fresh start, only to confront a terrifying force in the form of vampires.
Jordan portrayed both brothers, the serious twin Elijah “Smoke” Moore and the more lighthearted twin Elias “Stack” Moore, showcasing his range in dual roles.
Delroy Lindo collected the award and spoke on behalf of the cast, which included names like Miles Caton, Wunmi Mosaku, and Hailee Steinfield.

On X, formerly known as Twitter, many users praised the actor for his prowess.
“He’s such a great actor and to play two roles at that. Phenomenal,” one person wrote underneath The Hollywood Reporter’s tweet.

On the other hand, some users weren’t impressed with the win, with many noting that Jordan didn’t deserve it.
