I’ve never gotten any work done.” Still, she framed the constant commentary as part of a much larger issue tied to online culture. “I wish there was something in place on social media to restrict things that aren’t true,” she said, acknowledging how quickly misinformation spreads.

She also pointed out the ripple effect that kind of discourse can have on young women watching from the sidelines. “There are girls who will look at me and say, ‘I need to do these things to feel pretty.’” At times, she admitted, the scrutiny has forced her to repeatedly clarify basic realities. “I feel like I’ve had to explain how boobs work for forever now,” she added.

At this point, Sweeney seems to understand that the commentary may never fully disappear, but that doesn’t mean she has to let it define her.
