Zac Efron is turning a yacht day into a headline moment. Over the years, Efron has transformed his body for roles in projects like "Baywatch" and "The Iron Claw," often speaking about the intense training and discipline required to maintain that level of conditioning. According to the actor, rehearsing real wrestling moves ranked among the toughest challenges of his career, and the toll on his body was undeniable. “It was one of the most challenging things I've ever done, physically,” Efron admitted. “I was turning purple in parts, they would just cover it in makeup.”
The bruises weren’t for show. The physicality of the sport required full commitment, and Efron often left set battered after long days of choreography and contact.
If "The Iron Claw" tested his physical limits, "Baywatch" pushed him somewhere even more extreme.

In a candid interview with Variety, Zac Efron reflected on the intense regimen he followed to achieve his ultra-shredded look for the 2017 film, and why he wouldn’t do it again. Efron revealed he was taking diuretics, overtraining, and eating the same three meals every single day. He would wake up at 4 a.m. to work out, regardless of how late filming ran the night before.
“I started to develop insomnia, and I fell into a pretty bad depression, for a long time,” Efron said. “Something about that experience burned me out. I had a really hard time recentering. Ultimately, they chalked it up to taking way too many diuretics for way too long, and it messed something up.”

Looking back, he admitted the hyper-defined “Baywatch” physique wasn’t sustainable or even realistic. “That ‘Baywatch’ look, I don’t know if that’s really attainable. There’s just too little water in the skin. Like, it’s fake. It looks CGI’d," he said. "And that required Lasix, powerful diuretics, to achieve. So I don’t need to do that. I much prefer to have an extra, you know, two to three percent body fat.”
