Whether or not the "Today" show will ever have Savannah Guthrie back in front of the cameras is still pending.
Owing to a personal family crisis, the journalist is facing, she decided to step away from her desk as a host for the morning show. The time off now seems indefinite as her decision to return remains unmade.
Savannah Guthrie has been away from the "Today" show since February 2 after her mother, Nancy Guthrie, was declared missing. Hoda Kotb, who hosted the show years back, has returned to fill in for her former co-host.
Will Savannah Guthrie Be Returning To 'Today' Soon?

This question lingers on in the mind of viewers as the days of Nancy's disappearance keep counting on. Guthrie stepped away to focus on the search for her mother, who has been missing for almost a month.
As it stands, the TV host has not indicated whether or not she will be returning to "Today," and insiders told TMZ that her return or departure from the NBC morning show is still an open question.
There is no pressure on her from the channel, as they are threading lightly on the sensitive subject, and as such, there is no time limit for when she might return.
NBC is reportedly "fully supportive" of the journalist potentially returning to the "Today" show, but only if and when she feels ready. Nancy was allegedly kidnapped from her home in Tucson, Arizona, on February 1 after being dropped off by family members. Guthrie paused her career the next day.
The Broadcaster Is Pleading For People To Come Forth With Valuable Information

Guthrie is deeply worried for her mom and even fears that the worst might have happened. Via her social media platform, she requests that anyone who has valuable information that can help the authorities with their case should come forward.
Their family has offered a $1 million cash reward to the public in exchange for information. In a recent clip, she even told viewers that they can remain anonymous and still be rewarded for whatever useful information they might have, adding the FBI tip line for people to reach out through.
Guthrie has also sent messages to the kidnappers pleading that Nancy be returned, as it is never too late for them to do the right thing.
Despite Guthrie's understanding that her mother might be gone, as Nancy has been away for weeks without her heart medication, the TV host still has hope and a ray of faith that she could still come back home.
Investigations by the FBI about a masked man seen in the security camera footage at Nancy's front door, supposedly on the night of her disappearance, have turned up no leads.
The Mother-Of-Two Might Be Ready To Leave It Up To Fate

Guthrie has been in Arizona for almost four weeks, following up with the authorities and searching for her mom. Investigations led by the Pima County Sheriff's Department and the FBI have yet to produce answers, so the mom of two is considering returning to her own home to be with her husband and two kids.
"She can't stay in Arizona forever. Her kids and her life are in New York City," a source shared, and The Blast noted that the Guthrie family may be coming to terms with the understanding that the case might slowly become a cold case, which will take years to resolve.
They also noted that the mom of two is "craving normalcy" and, as such, might have to make the heartbreaking decision to put this on the shelf and continue with her life.
As investigators play their part, Guthrie gathers hope in her public plea and her faith, while considering taking the painful step of returning home as the search for Nancy continues.
Former 'Today' Host Katie Couric Weighed In On The Situation

Katie Couric, who was a co-anchor on the "Today" show from 1991 until 2006, recently shared her thoughts on the situation with Guthrie's mom's disappearance and her break from the show.
"This situation is tragically unprecedented, and I think it's really hard to compare anything else to what Savannah and her family are dealing with right now," she expressed.
The Blast, in a previous report, noted that she praised the morning show's team for stepping in and covering for Guthrie in her absence. Couric stressed how painful it must be for them to cover stories about Nancy's disappearance that hit close to home for them.
"The 'Today' show team is doing the best they possibly can, and it must be excruciating to try to carry on, but also to cover a story about a beloved colleague." Couric also previously sent words of prayer and encouragement to Guthrie and her family as they navigate through this painful ordeal.
Hoda Kotb Is Stepping In For Savannah Guthrie

Days after Guthrie left the NBC morning show to pursue finding her mother, Kotb stepped in to host the show in her stead with Craig Melvin. Kotb had worked with NBC for nearly 30 years before announcing her exit in September 2024.
She hosted "Today" with Guthrie from 2018 until she left in January 2025 but has made periodic appearances since her final episode on the show.
Kotb, being no stranger to the show's viewers, will continue to fill in for her former co-host for the foreseeable future as Guthrie's return remains to be determined.
The Blast shared that Kotb previously explained that leaving the channel was a difficult decision, but it was one she had to make for the sake of her family, particularly her daughters, Haley and Hope.
May Savannah Guthrie find comfort amid the turmoil!
