The Maryland Office of the Chief Medical Examiner confirmed that Brown's cause of death was diffuse thermal injury and smoke inhalation, with officials ruling the manner of death an accident.

According to reports, the tragic incident began when Brown entered the barn to jump-start a vehicle. At some point afterward, he contacted a family member requesting a fire extinguisher. By the time relatives arrived to help, the situation had escalated dramatically, and the structure was already engulfed in flames.
His wife was reportedly injured during the emergency, suffering severe burns while attempting to rescue him.
