Mary Cosby Is Reportedly Choosing To 'Maintain Some Structure' Amid Her Grief

Mary Cosby does not want a shift in her normal routine despite her son's tragic passing.

The reality TV star would be returning to grace screens despite speculations that she might take time off to deal with her grief.  Her way of dealing with the loss of her only child might be not to let the change rock her whole world, distorting her prelaid plans.

Mary Cosby lost her son, Robert Cosby Jr., on February 23, 2026, amid his struggles with drug addiction. The 23-year-old previously admitted his struggles with controlled substances in an appearance on "Real Housewives of Salt Lake City."

Despite the tragic loss of her son, Mary plans to appear on the upcoming season of "Real Housewives of Salt Lake City." Speculations initially carried that the reality TV star would be taking a break from filming after news of Robert Jnr's passing made headlines

It is noteworthy that the decision to aptly return to the cameras in season seven does not stem from external pressure; instead, it is entirely hers.

Sources close to production told TMZ that she sees returning to work as a way to maintain some structure during this incredibly difficult phase. As she navigates this reality,  she leans on her inner circle and faith for support. 

Mary will reportedly participate in filming at whatever pace she deems fit enough for her to handle, and there is no pressure on her from production concerning the matter.

After the news of Robert Jnr's sudden death, the show and crew decided to show respect to Cosby and delay the filming for a while. They announced that filming would not go on as initially scheduled due to the sad news, granting Mary and her fellow castmates the chance to grieve. 

The shooting, which was to begin this week, was officially postponed. Currently, the show is in its preproduction stage, and the cameras are set to start rolling soon.

Robert's death will most likely be a major featured content on the show this new season, with the cast reacting to the news of the loss of their pal's son.

Apart from Mary, The Blast shares that the faces of  Lisa Barlow, Meredith Marks, Angie Katsanavas, Heather Gay, Whitney Rose, and Bronwyn Newport will be on screen this season.

Robert was found dead in Salt Lake City on Monday, February 23, 2026. Early reports from news outlets share that police officials responded to a call of what might have been an overdose, though the actual cause of death has not been revealed.

The call was made for a 23-year-old male due to a "full "arrest/medical emergency, and police, as well as firemen and paramedics, were also dispatched.

By the time responders got to the scene, Robert was already dead. In Mary's emotional social media announcement post, she also did not state the cause of her only child's death.

She, however, noted that it was a painful time for them, but knowing that he is at peace was a source of comfort. "...We are grateful for your prayers and trust in the Lord to carry us through this time of sorrow," she concluded.

The news of Robert's sudden death was a shock and a cause of grief to many. Fans of the show rose to support the media personality in her time of grief, sending messages of condolence. The Salt Lake City cast also put aside their lingering on-camera drama or past tensions to rally around Mary.

The Blast shared that Mary's boss, Andy Cohen, was not exempt from the sympathizers; he stated that the news was devastatingly sad, adding, "This is every parent's worst nightmare. My heart is broken for Mary, and I am sending all my love to her and Robert Sr."

Several Housewives from different city franchises, including Dolores Catania, Cynthia Bailey, and Lisa Hochstein, issued public statements sending love and expressing their sadness concerning his death. "RHOSLC" castmates also sent condolence messages online showing love and support for Mary.

Robert has appeared on the show, where he had a candid conversation with his mother about his drug use and abuse. He disclosed that he was using more than just Xanax despite his intention to stick to just "natural stuff."

His mom, on the other hand, had previously said she was only aware that he was using Marijuana. Robert revealed that he was mixing Xanax with harder substances like cocaine, Molly, and Acid.

The Blast detailed that shortly before his death, he was released from jail with a strict probation order and even required to wear an ankle monitor. 

He was instructed to stay off illegal drugs completely and was ordered to have routine tests for substance abuse, mental health, and anger management. Robert was to be on probation for 24 months before his death.

The 23-year-old was charged with felony domestic violence, aggravated assault, and felony domestic violence just weeks ago, from an alleged 2024 incident.
