Kesha is proving that even a spontaneous beach moment can break the internet. The singer shared a photo from Sydney, Australia, showing herself kneeling in the ocean at night, completely soaked as waves rolled around her, and fans immediately flooded the comments. In the snap, Kesha is wearing blue bikini bottoms while using her arms to cover herself, her wet hair pushed back as she looks toward the camera. She captioned the post, “I’m having a g’day, mate,” leaning into the fun of being in Australia.

Opening Up About Body Shaming And Its Impact

While Kesha’s latest post radiates confidence, she’s been candid over the years about how hard it was to reach that place. The singer has previously spoken about dealing with intense body shaming throughout her career, revealing in 2017 that online bullying, combined with anxiety and depression, contributed to her struggle with an eating disorder. She described it as a “vicious cycle” that became increasingly difficult to escape.
In an essay for Teen Vogue, Kesha didn’t hold back about how damaging the constant scrutiny could be. “When I compared myself to others, I would read more mean comments, which only fed my anxiety and depression. Seeing paparazzi photos of myself and the accompanying catty commentary fueled my eating disorder,” she wrote. “The sick irony was that when I was at some of the lowest points in my life, I kept hearing how much better I looked. I knew I was destroying my body with my eating disorder, but the message I was getting was that I was doing great.”

Kesha has also reflected on how the culture around bullying has evolved, and not in a good way. The singer shared that while she experienced bullying growing up, what she sees happening on social media today feels far more intense and damaging.
“When I think about the kind of bullying I dealt with as a child and teen, it seems almost quaint compared with what goes on today,” she says. “The amount of body shaming and baseless slut-shaming online makes me sick. I know from personal experience how comments can mess up somebody."

Despite the negativity she’s faced, Kesha has made it clear that healing became a priority. Looking back, she shared that stepping away from outside noise and focusing inward changed everything for her. Growth didn’t happen overnight, but she says choosing to work on herself was one of the most important decisions she’s made.
“In the past couple of years, I’ve grown up a lot. I’ve realized that once you take the step to help yourself, you’re going to be so happy you did,” she said at the time. “Taking the time to work on yourself requires bravery. Trying to change your life based on other people’s thoughts can drive you crazy. You have to figure out what makes you feel good and what keeps you in a positive headspace.”
