Cardi B Not Having Any Nicki Minaj Around Her, Jokes Included

Cardi B wants anything attached to Nicki Minaj's name away from her as far as the east is from the west, or at least that was what the alleged "Saturday Night Live" rehearsal meltdown was about.

The "Bodak Yellow" hitmaker apparently cannot stand any association with the Trinidad native owing to their long-standing beef, which has been heavily documented on their social media accounts.

Cardi B and Nicki Minaj have brewed a cold war for years after initially being civil and only battling for the top music charts. The blood between them became really heated, leading to a physical altercation and hurling insults at each other's kids.

Cardi was set to perform on the 1000th episode of "Sunday Night Live" on January 31, and she apparently put on a show during rehearsals.

The rapper overheard "Weekend Update" anchors run a joke about Nicki Minaj, and reportedly, all hell broke loose. She allegedly started destroying equipment after she heard the jokes the actors were running ahead of dress rehearsals.

Sources told TMZ that the joke had nothing to do with Cardi, and one was even about Nicki's relationship and support for President Donald Trump, yet she still fumed at them. They claimed that things went south almost immediately, and the rapper started threatening to leave the show.

She did not make empty threats and allegedly threw her phone at a TV monitor backstage before going into the producers' office and punching a screen till it broke.

The screen had to be replaced before the dress rehearsals began, and the whole situation left everyone with goosebumps. As a result, the joke that ignited the flames was scrapped from the episode.

It has been difficult to pinpoint the exact origin of the fights between the two artists, with some believing it started in March 2017. Then, Nicki was at odds with fellow musician Remy Ma, and Cardi appeared during her 2017 performance at Hot 97's Summer Jam Festival.

Cardi joined other women rappers to perform "U.N.I.T.Y.," before Remy delivered a performance of her Nicki diss track "ShETHER" complete with a picture of Nicki behind her.

Months later, Nicki performed "No Flags" alongside Offset and 21 Savage. A part of the lyrics she rapped made people start speculating that they were directed at Cardi, but she denied the claims.

"Lil' b-tch I heard these labels tryna make another me/Everything you getting little h-e is 'cause of me," she rapped on the track.

In September of the same year, Cardi also sparked rumors of dissing Nicki with her lines on G-Eazy's "No Limit." She also debunked the rumors, stating, "People don't understand that I got beef with 10 b-tches in the hood, and I still be in the hood."

All seemed to be well when the Trinidad rapper congratulated Cardi on her No.1 hit song on the Billboard Hot 100, "Bodak Yellow," and they collaborated with Migos on "Motorsport," signalling to fans that they had no bad blood. Yet, many claimed they subtly dissed each other on the project.

"Motorsport" seemed to be a successful project for the artists, but when the video came out, fans noticed that the two rappers did not film on the same days. Nicki attributed the discrepancies pointed out by fans to her hairstylist being unavailable on the original day of the shoot.

Forbes reported that in a November 2017 interview, Cardi B said when she first heard "Motorsport," Nicki's "verse wasn't finished well, it's not the verse that is out right now, and Quavo told me to get on the song."

Nicki said months later the "only thing with Cardi that really, really hurt my feelings" was Cardi's remark about her verse on the song, explaining that if the roles were reversed, "I would only be singing their praises and saying thank you."

She also explained that when the beef rumors made waves, neither Quavo nor Cardi backed her up about the hairdresser's scheduling issues, making it seem like she lied. 

"I really fully supported her and up until this recent interview, I had never seen her show me genuine love in an interview," the "Queen" singer added.

The online brawl started on September 30, 2025, with both entertainers throwing shade at each other on X without outrightly tagging their handles. They dragged each other over fertility issues, with Cardi writing that Nicki went to different fertility doctors because her eggs were damaged due to drug abuse.

The "Am I The Drama" singer then wrote that Nicki should leave Twitter (now X) and celebrate her son's birthday. All hell broke loose at Nicki's response as she called Kulture "ugly," "a roach," and "a monkey" after Cardi had also thrown shade at Papa Bear, calling him "nonverbal."

In 2018, the rappers took things off social media into the real world, throwing punches. The feud blew up at a New York FashionWeek party after Cadi approached Nicki because of the "lies Nicki was spreading."

BBC News reported that the mom of for allegedly took a hit from the elbow of a security guard to the face before throwing a red-heeled shoe at Nicki. Cardi was then seen being escorted out of the premises with a bump over her eye and notably without her shoes.

Her rival, however, appeared unscathed from the incident, and the two entertainers extended the scuffle on social media. Eyewitnesses claim the altercation took place on the first-floor balcony of the Harper's Bazaar ICONS party, during a performance by Christina Aguilera.

A viral video showed Cardi lunging forward to attack Nicki after Rah Ali had intervened to separate them from getting too physical before security guards fully pulled them apart.
