Tiffany Richardson isn’t staying quiet after Tyra Banks revisited one of the most infamous moments in "America’s Next Top Model" history. Following the release of Netflix’s "Reality Check: Inside America’s Next Top Model," the former contestant took to social media with a fiery response, reigniting conversations about the show’s controversial past and Banks’ treatment of contestants behind the scenes. The renewed drama comes more than two decades after Tyra Banks’ now-viral on-camera meltdown, which producers say was actually toned down in the version viewers saw.

Tyra Banks Admits She ‘Went Too Far’ In Infamous ‘ANTM’ Meltdown

Banks reflected on the moment while looking back.
“I just saw all that [work] going down the drain. I saw her just not believing in herself and giving up and not just giving up on a modeling competition but deeper … I went too far. You know, I lost it. It was probably bigger than her … That’s some Black girl stuff that goes real deep inside of me.”
The moment remains one of the most recognizable scenes in reality television history.
‘ANTM’ Insiders Say Tyra Banks’ Blowup Was Worse Than What Aired

According to those involved in production, what viewers saw on television was not the full story. Creative director Jay Manuel revealed that the situation escalated beyond what aired, and another insider claimed Banks had to be escorted off set following the confrontation, with legal teams later becoming involved.
“There was a lot more that was really said and some of the things that were said were really not well-intentioned," he said. "I will probably never repeat the lines that were said in the room that day.”
Miss J Reveals Health Battle, And Says Tyra Banks Never Visited

The docuseries also delivered one of its most emotional moments when longtime "America’s Next Top Model" runway coach Miss J opened up about a devastating health crisis that changed his life.
Miss J, who appeared on the show for 18 seasons, revealed for the first time that he suffered a debilitating stroke in 2022 and spent five weeks in a coma. Reflecting on how the experience impacted him, he shared a heartbreaking admission. “I miss being the queen of the runway," he said. "I’m the person who taught models how to walk and now I can’t walk.”
Creative director Jay Manuel and photographer Nigel Barker both visited him during his recovery, and the trio are shown reconnecting during the documentary filming. However, when producers asked whether Banks had visited him in the hospital, Miss J gave a surprising answer: “No, not yet. Never came and visited.”
Allegations Surface That Models Weren’t Protected During Vulnerable Moments

Another disturbing moment involved contestant Keenyah Hill, who was groped by a male model during a shoot and expressed discomfort in real time, only to later be criticized during judging for not responding in a more playful manner.
Looking back, Banks acknowledged the situation could have been handled better. “I say to Keenyah, boo-boo, I am so sorry,” Banks says now. “None of us knew [how to best handle that situation]. Network executives didn’t know, and I did the best that I could at the time. She deserved more.”
"Reality Check: Inside America’s Next Top Model" is now streaming on Hulu and Disney+.
