As the investigation into Nancy Guthrie's disappearance remains ongoing, one concerned citizen has made a surprising move to support the search for answers.

Shawn Breeden, a native of Tucson, Arizona, the same region where Guthrie was residing, recently launched a GoFundMe campaign that he says is intended to "support the Guthrie family in their search for answers."

On the fundraising page, Breeden also outlines how the funds would be disbursed, while encouraging the public to donate whatever amount they are able to give, whether large or small.

"All funds raised will go directly to the Guthrie family for the purchase of bitcoin, with the goal of obtaining information that could help locate Nancy," Breeden wrote, per reports.

"Any additional funds that remain after this effort may be donated to the FBI or Police department to help recoup resources spent on the ongoing search," he added.

As of now, only $430 has been raised out of the $65,000 target, with $50 coming from Breeden himself.

Since Guthrie went missing, multiple alleged ransom notes demanding multimillion-dollar sums in Bitcoin for her return have been sent to news outlets.

One of the first ransom notes, which surfaced days after her disappearance, demanded that Guthrie's family pay $6 million in Bitcoin for her safe return. Another message, received by TMZ, demanded 1 Bitcoin in exchange for the alleged kidnapper's identity.

The authenticity of both ransom demands was never confirmed. However, an investigation into several additional ransom messages ultimately led authorities to arrest Derrick Callella, 42, of Hawthorne, California.

According to People Magazine, Callella allegedly sent multiple messages to Guthrie's daughter, Savannah, including one in which he asked whether she had obtained the Bitcoin.

Just as numerous ransom notes have been sent to Guthrie's family, speculation has also swirled about the motive behind the kidnapping.

One recent claim suggested that her abduction was the result of a burglary gone wrong, but the sheriff in the county where Nancy Guthrie's home is located has refuted that assumption.

"It did not come from us," Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said of the claim, per Fox News. "No idea, and even though that is one of many possibilities, we would never speculate such a thing."

He continued, "We will let the evidence take us to the motive."

Another investigative source also pushed back on the Burglary theory in the Guthrie case.

The source stated that it is not the "working theory" of the investigating unit, noting that residential homes are typically not burglarized at the time of day when Guthrie's abduction occurred.

"Nighttime residential burglaries are so ridiculously rare. Crazy rare," said the individual.

They continued, "We [also] don't have any indication that [Guthrie] really kept anything valuable there, and if this was a burglary gone wrong, they don't take the victim with them usually."

Amid the ongoing uncertainty surrounding Guthrie's whereabouts and whether she is still alive, her daughter, Savannah, has appealed to her abductors to have a change of heart.

"It's been two weeks since our mom was taken, and I just wanted to come on and say that we still have hope, and we still believe," the "Today" show co-anchor said in an emotional message on Sunday Night, per The Independent.

She added, "I wanted to say to whoever has her, or knows where she is, that it's never too late. And you're not lost or alone, and it is never too late to do the right thing, and we are here."

Savannah also said she believes in the "essential goodness of every human being," as a further appeal to her mother's abductor to do the right thing.
