On Monday, February 16, TMZ revealed that a fourth email was sent to the outlet about Nancy Guthrie's abduction, which included claims about knowing who took her and that she is alive.

According to the outlet, the latest email has the same address as the one used for the previous bitcoin ransom demands.

"I know what I saw 5 days ago south of the border and I was told to shut up. So I know who he is and that was definitely Nancy with them," the email read, per TMZ.

Additionally, the person who wrote the email also shared that he has a prior burglary from 10 years ago, and because of that, he is afraid to come forward with information for fear of being implicated in Guthrie's disappearance.

The email is also said to, again, demand $50,000 in bitcoin for more information.

While speaking with the Daily Mail on Sunday, February 15, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos had strong words for the media and online skeptics who have spread theories that Nancy Guthrie's family is responsible for her disappearance, with a specific implication for son-in-law Tommaso Cioni.

"People out there can get pretty ugly and mean and nasty and not have the facts," Nanos said. "I tell my journalists, you guys need to be a little more responsible… because that's just really nasty stuff."

The sheriff also noted that, by rushing to implicate Cioni in Guthrie's disappearance, it could put an unfair target on his back without concrete evidence that he was indeed involved.

"But I've really told people, this is a lot of stress. If he [Tommaso Cioni] is guilty, if he's the one who did it, and we're able to prove that, then at that time jump on it, but don't come out of nowhere with this," Nanos told the outlet.

"I understand the pundits are out there," he continued. "They're gonna say, 'well, he's the last one to see her alive.' We understand that stuff. But, my goodness, you're putting a mark on somebody who could be completely innocent. And more important than that, he's family."

In a statement to the New York Times, Sheriff Nanos provided the sobering reality that finding Guthrie could take much longer than initially thought.

"Maybe it's an hour from now," he shared with the outlet. "Maybe it's weeks or months or years from now. But we won't quit. We're going to find Nancy. We're going to find this guy."

His comments come days after the Pima County Sheriff's Department detained and released multiple people for questioning in the case without resulting in any concrete evidence to link them to Guthrie's disappearance.

There have been recent reports of the FBI and the Pima County Sheriff's Department not aligning with their approach to the investigation into her abduction, resulting in rumors that Sheriff Chris Nanos was "blocking" the FBI from the case.

"Actually, the FBI just wanted to send the one or two they found by the crime scene, closest to it – mile, mile and a half... I said 'No, why do that? Let's just send them all to where all the DNA exists, all the profiles and the markers exist.' They agreed, makes sense," Nanos said, per KVOA.
