Michelle Obama recently made a major change to her appearance, and her husband, Barack Obama, barely even noticed it.
The former First Lady opened up about getting new piercings because she has always wanted them, and how people around her inspired the change.
Michelle’s statements came three weeks after she opened up about the scrutiny her wardrobe faced when she was still First Lady of the United States.
Michelle Obama Got 10 New Piercings At Once
During a recent episode of Michelle and her brother Craig Robinson’s “IMO” podcast, Mrs. Obama revealed that she got ten new piercings in her ear in “one sitting."
She also explained that it wasn’t a spontaneous decision, as she has always wanted to get more piercings.
However, she only got a second piercing before she had kids and soon enough, stopped putting earrings in the second hole altogether because she got “lazy.”
Nevertheless, the former First Lady got inspired by younger people, who seem to wear many different adornments these days. This ultimately led her to get the new piercings.
“But nowadays, the young people in my life are doing more piercings. There's just more beautiful adornment. You see more of a cluster, a constellation, with twinkles,” she told Robinson.
Michelle also revealed that Barack didn’t notice the change until three days later
“Barack, [it] took him a couple of days,” she recounted. “He was like, ‘You haven't had your hair up, you've had your hair down.’ And I was like, ‘I don't know. I like sleep with you every night, dude, you know?’ ”
She also cheekily joked with Robinson about how he also didn’t notice the new piercings until she pointed them out.
Michelle Obama’s Appearance Was Often Scrutinized When She Was First Lady

The former First Lady’s bold new fashion change comes on the heels of her acknowledgement of feeling frustrated by how the media scrutinized her appearance when her husband was the president.
During an older episode of the “IMO” podcast, she recalled seeing headlines about what she was wearing, not her achievements, education, or professional career, per The Blast.
She pointed out some of her achievements, including being a two-time graduate of two Ivy League institutions and her law career. However, no one seemed to care about that when she became the First Lady because her “shoes became the most important thing” about her to the media.
The Author Gave Some Insights Into Her Newfound Confidence & Personal Growth

Before speaking about the scrutiny her fashion choices once garnered, Michelle got honest about her growth and evolution over the past decade.
According to The Blast, the Harvard graduate acknowledged how much her confidence has grown. “Fundamentally, I’m the same person. But with each decade, I’ve grown wiser,” she said.
This came amid the release of her book, “The Look,” which highlighted the dynamics of dressing as the first Black First Lady of the United States.
The Obamas’ Marriage Is Still A ‘Work’ In Progress

Mrs. Obama didn’t only open up about the dynamics of dressing as a First Lady, she also gave some insight into her marriage to Barack, noting that it isn’t perfect.
The 62-year-old author revealed that they have had to put in effort to make their marriage work and have even gone to couples therapy.
“We’ve been in couples therapy. I believe in the practice of having those conversations with objective people who help you piece through that stuff, and it’s a constant, it’s constant work,” she said, per The Blast.
She also noted the importance of realizing that she had to work on herself as an individual before she was able to play her role in her marriage to Barack.
Barack Obama & Michelle Obama Were Recently Targeted By Donald Trump In An Act Of Racism

As the Obamas continue to work on their marriage outside the White House, they have unfortunately had to deal with constant attacks from the current president, Donald Trump.
Last week, The Blast reported that the president shared a video that depicted Barack and Michelle Obama’s faces superimposed on the bodies of monkeys.
As expected, this video sparked backlash online, as fans demanded that Trump apologize to the former president and his wife.
However, instead of an apology, the White House issued a statement noting that the video was “from an internet meme video depicting President Trump as the King of the Jungle and Democrats as characters from The Lion King.”
Shortly after that, the post was taken down, and the White House blamed the blunder on a staffer.
