"My biggest dream in life was to become an accountant and that took a turn. I grew up as a math guy and a physics guy, and I always loved fashion," Hamilton told The Blast exclusively. "I had no experience in fashion. One thing led to another, and I started buying and selling from different stores and just chose the concept of licensing and became the first licensee of a jeans company."

That jeans company - Guess Jeans. At that time, Guess Jeans only made clothing for women, so Hamilton approached about acquiring the license to use the name Guess to create a clothing line for men. From there, he began creating leather jackets and ultimately designed jackets for many celebrities and sports figures.

"To do something with State Farm, which is for me one of the most iconic brands in the world, but especially in America, and being able to have it associated with the NBA, I think it's like both of us paving the way to try to create the first jacket ever worn by a champion of three points," Hamilton said. "The same way I did that in 91 when I made the first championship jacket for Michael Jordan when he won a championship."

Hamilton shared more information about the jacket and the thought process behind the design.

"It had the skyline of Los Angeles. It had an element of basketball. It had obviously the 3-point NBA All-Star 2026 contest," he said. "Tried to blend in everything like the same way a chef - you give him all the ingredients, and he's able to go out and do his cooking. That's kind of what I do with my jacket, considering myself an artist. If I was an artist, my jacket is my canvas because I am able to tell a story."

Hamilton said that "every jacket has a story to tell" and that he's able to "express" himself in the details. And even after doing this for 45 years, he still feels "passionate every morning" knowing that he's going to be designing something.

The Designer Has Attended More Than 25 NBA All-Star Weekends

Hamilton was excited about attending NBA All-Star 2026 and told The Blast he's been to more than 25 in his lifetime.

"I revert to the little kid that I am, you know, that I am still fascinated to see all the players which are all my friends. And my heart beats extra when I see some of the players and being able to say hello to them and hug them. It's just a great moment to see," he said. "The competition itself is exciting."

He said he's excited for it all - the 3-Point Contest, Slam Dunk Competition, and of course, the games.

"It's just great to see such a group of talent all on the same floor together," he added. "And it's just an amazing moment."
