Kelsea Ballerini Hints At Cheating With Cheeky Comment Amid Her Split

Kelsea Ballerini's recent social media activity moves hint at the reason for her third relationship split.

The singer's on-and-off relationship with Chase Stokes has been one for the books as the pair have broken up three times in less than six months. Details of their breakup remained largely in the shadows as neither party gave insights into what triggered their previous fallouts.

The third split was shocking because Kelsea Ballerini gushed about how much she loved the actor at the 2026 Grammys less than two weeks ago. Word of their relationship made headlines in 2023 after the singer finalized her divorce from Morgan Evans.

Ballerini's recent action is raising whispers regarding the reason for her third split from her on-and-off lover, Stokes. The artist commented on Ashley Cooke's reel, where she sang a part of her song "Xs" while strumming her guitar.

The lyrics were displayed as she sang, part of which read "o, dont deny i know you did it/ o, it doesn't matter how you spin it/ want me back after that? Forget it/ dont you know crossing lines makes Xs."

Cooke also wrote a comment reiterating a line from the song "Crossing lines makes Xs," to which Ballerini replied, "mmmhhhmmm," showing agreement to the words while Cooke answered, "You get it."

The Grammy nominee's comment has received hundreds of likes, and users are eager to hear the full story. One fan asked her to spill the tea, but another replied, writing that Ballerini has clearly stated that she is done oversharing, asking other fans to quit speculating and let the 32-year-old heal.

Ballerini's comment on Cooke's Instagram video comes a few days after the former couple's split was confirmed. A source told Us Magazine that they had called it quits once again, and the singer was handling this split better than the previous ones.

Although the country singer is officially done with the romance, according to the source, Stokes is still holding on to a thread of hope and is not ready to give up on the relationship. Fans noticed that Ballerini unfollowed her former lover on Instagram shortly before it was confirmed that they had broken up yet again.

The duo recently rekindled their romance, announcing on New Year's Eve, 37 days after their second breakup, that they were beginning this new chapter of their life together. The Grammy nominee posted a photo of them kissing, captioned:

"Messy year for the heart, messy year for the outside coming in, messy year for the way it became an out of our hands portrayal of it. But what I'll say, and all I really care to share indefinitely with my personal life anymore, is that I really love love. I believe in it, I believe in him, and I believe in breaking patterns. Sources close to the couple shared that their relationship had shifted in nature after their frequent breakups, and Ballerini was the one to pull the plug this time.

Less than two weeks ago, while attending the 2026 Grammys on Sunday, February 1, as her album "Patterns" was nominated for Best Country Album, Ballerini shared an update on her thriving relationship with Stokes.

She revealed that, contrary to the widespread rumors, their previous breakup was not as dramatic as portrayed in the media. They had much love for each other and decided to give it another try. 

"I love him so much. We've been together for quite a while now and done a lot of life together, and he was with me getting ready today, and he'll be with me when we wrap. I love love, and I believe it in it," she told reporters.

The Blast reported that Ballerini had previously shared that she had high hopes for her romance with the actor. Describing him as emotionally intelligent and different from other men, she envisioned that the relationship would be long-term.

The musician was married to Morgan Evans for nearly five years till they finalized their divorce in 2022. She previously got candid, sharing that their relationship had gone downhill years before she filed for divorce. There was a lot of fighting, some resulting in nights on the couch for Ballerini.

The country singer described the divorce as a deeply difficult decision, but did not specify an exact reason for their split. Later on, it was revealed that Ballerini had allegedly cheated on Evans with pop singer Drew Taggart in 2019.

The Blast shared that while the alleged cheating took place at Lollapalooza, when the entertainers were working on a project, the 32-year-old did not confess to her then-husband until two years later.

Ballerini recalled a time when she slept "on the couch the night before the CMAs," and before going to her rehearsal at the arena, she tried extending the olive branch to her then-husband by texting him. Instead of keeping the conversation going, Evans simply replied, "I'll just see you at [sic] the carpet."
