On February 10, the Pima County Sheriff's Department announced they detained a subject during a traffic stop in Rio Rico, Arizona, located about 60 miles from Tucson.
At that time, authorities didn't confirm or deny whether the detainee was the same individual seen on surveillance video outside Nancy's home. The only information shared was that the individual was being questioned about Nancy's disappearance.

The man, who only wants to be identified by the name Carlos, spoke out soon after he was released from custody.
Outside his residence in Rio Rico, Carlos talked to reporters and recounted his experience, saying he was caught off guard when authorities told him he was going to be detained.
Carlos claims that he had no idea who Nancy was. He didn't know Savannah either, as he claims he doesn't watch the news.
He was making deliveries as a DoorDash driver and realized police were following him. He stopped for them, and when asked what the authorities asked him, he said that they wanted to know his name.
When he was finally told that he was being detained in connection with an abduction, Carlos said, "What the f-ck am I doing here? I didn't do anything." "I'm innocent," he told the reporters.
Carlos shared that he was kept in a police car while authorities searched his vehicle, adding that they didn't ask him questions. He was released after two hours.

After Carlos was detained, the Pima County Sheriff's Department and the FBI conducted a court-ordered search of Carlos' residence.
DoorDash has also weighed in on Nancy's case shortly after the authorities announced that they were questioning someone, saying, "We are urgently investigating reports that an individual detained in relation to the Nancy Guthrie case was a delivery driver," adding that they will support the investigation in any way they can.
According to the sheriff's department, per People, they have completed the search and investigation in the Rio Rico property, but they didn't provide further details, only saying the investigation into Nancy's case is ongoing.
Carlos' Mother-In-Law Says He Has Nothing To Do With Nancy Guthrie Case

The Rio Rico property that authorities searched was owned by Josefina Maddox, Carlos' mother-in-law. She spoke to reporters outside her home, saying that investigators received a tip that Nancy was inside the home.
"I told them you can go in and search my house; there is nobody there. I have nothing to hide," Maddox explained. Investigators also showed her the surveillance video taken outside Nancy's home, and she said Carlos doesn't own any of the items the person was wearing.
Maddox was adamant that her son-in-law had nothing to do with Nancy's abduction. She also said she doesn't know much about the case, only that she came across a report of Nancy missing on Facebook.
Latest Updates On The Nancy Guthrie Case

Carlos says that he hopes to clear his name, adding, "I hope they get the suspect, cause I'm not it."
As previously reported by The Blast, authorities finally have clues about the alleged abductor's identity, thanks to the surveillance video footage that was recovered by experts. Many are hoping that this break in the case helps bring Nancy back home to her family.
On February 10, an update was also released regarding the Bitcoin account specified in the ransom note sent to the Guthries. According to reports, there was finally activity on the account, which was a transaction amounting to less than $300.
As of writing, the Pima County Sheriff's Department said that there is no press conference scheduled at this time while the investigation is ongoing.
