News broke in the last weeks of 2025, after the songwriter announced he was back on the cancer train after being cancer-free for a few years.

He initially battled with throat cancer for years, and shortly after winning, he got his second diagnosis of a different form of the illness. Manilow shared that after undergoing an MRI scan, doctors finally discovered a cancerous spot on his left lung.

The iconic singer disclosed that the trigger for the scan was the fact that he had suffered from bronchitis for weeks. Manilow then added that he was scheduled to undergo surgery to remove the spot, without chemo or radiation.

The Blast noted that the 82-year-old's statement covered that his struggle with bronchitis lasted for six weeks, and he had a five-week relapse, which was no news to his family and fans. Early detection of the cancerous spot via MRI made the treatment less aggressive.

Due to the surgery, he had to cancel his "Christmas Gift of Love" concerts, and every other January show would be rescheduled. Manilow offered a heartfelt apology to fans who had longed to watch him perform through the holidays.

The legendary singer was first married to Susan Deixler from 1964 to 1966. He began dating his current partner, Garry Kief, almost a decade later, in 1978. Kief came into the relationship with his daughter from a previous relationship, making Manilow a stepdad.

Manilow shared that he drew inspiration for parenthood from his own stepfather, Willie Murphy, who introduced him to music through a vast record collection. He raised Kirsten from about two years old and has since been a prominent, active parent figure in her life.

She has remained out of the public eye, but PEOPLE reported that she attended the 2014 Emmys with her stepdad and has been spotted a few times at various red carpet events.

The Grammy winner and his long-time manager, Kief, have been together for four decades and counting, but only legally tied the knot in 2014. They had an intimate surprise wedding with about 30 guests.
