Clarkson shared two children with her ex-husband: a daughter named River and a son named Remington. In early August, she postponed her Las Vegas residency in order to spend time with her children following the death of their father.

"While I normally keep my personal life private, this past year, my children’s father has been ill, and at this moment, I need to be fully present for them," Clarkson wrote in a statement. She went on to thank fans for their "grace, kindness, and understanding."

The former couple wed in October 2013, and their relationship inspired her 2015 song, “Piece by Piece.” After their wedding, Blackston became Clarkson’s manager; however, she filed for divorce in 2020 and finalized their divorce in 2022. At the time, Clarkson admitted that it wasn’t an “overnight decision,” adding, “I wanted to make it beautiful. I wanted to make it awesome. I wanted to make it everything it possibly could be, and sometimes that just doesn’t happen.”
