Cher delivered one of the most chaotic and unforgettable moments in Grammys history, turning what should have been a routine awards presentation into a live-TV spectacle.

From walking offstage too early to accidentally announcing the wrong winner, the music icon left viewers stunned and laughing in equal measure.

The night spiraled into confusion when Cher returned to the stage and made a blunder involving Kendrick Lamar, the late Luther Vandross, and a very uncooperative awards prompter.

Cher Walks Offstage, Then Gets Pulled Back Into Grammys Chaos

Cher’s Grammys appearance started off rocky before it completely unraveled.

The 79-year-old legend initially came onstage to accept her lifetime achievement award, but confusion quickly set in.

After finishing her prepared remarks encouraging viewers not to give up on their dreams, Cher awkwardly wrapped things up by saying, “Thank you. I guess I’m supposed to walk off now. All right.”

She then strolled offstage to thunderous applause, seemingly ending her night.

However, host Trevor Noah immediately had to intervene, calling her back because Cher was also scheduled to present the Record of the Year award.

The interruption added to the confusion, as the audience watched Cher turn around and head right back onstage. What followed was anything but smooth.

Instead of resetting the moment, the singer launched straight into presenting the award, setting the stage for what would become one of the most talked-about live TV mishaps of the night.

As Cher attempted to present Record of the Year for Kendrick Lamar and SZA’s song “Luther,” the moment spiraled further out of control.

She began confidently, saying, “And the Grammy goes to…” before trailing off into a long, awkward pause while staring ahead.

Realizing something was wrong, she admitted, “Oh! They told me it was gonna be on the prompter.”

Once it became clear she needed to open the envelope in her hand, Cher did so and enthusiastically announced, “Luther Gandross [sic]!”

The crowd erupted as Lamar giggled onstage, clearly aware that Cher had just named Luther Vandross, who has been dead for 20 years, as the winner.

Understanding the mix-up, Lamar still made his way to the stage, recognizing she meant his song.

Cher soon caught her mistake and shouted, “Oh, no, Kendrick Lamar!” laughing as the rapper and SZA’s play-on music started.

Vandross, whose vocals were sampled in the song, was later thanked by Lamar in his speech.

Shortly after the Grammys, Pop Base took to their official X account to share the hilarious video, igniting a wave of reactions from fans.

Many found the clip funny with one fan even describing it as “icon energy.”

“Cher fumbled that announcement so bad lmao. Said Luther Vandross instead of the song Luther. Icon energy but that was rough. Someone get her the right card next time,” the fan wrote.

A second user joked about the deceased singer receiving a posthumous Grammy award, due to his immense talent.

They wrote, “At least they leaned into it. Also, the song is connected to Vandross, so she wasn’t completely wrong.”

Other fans jokingly noted that the mistakes were due to Cher’s age, even though they admitted the icon looked good at 79.

“She look good to be 79 but baybee that’s a senior citizen,” a commenter added.

The Grammys situation wasn’t the first time Cher made the headlines recently.

As The Blast reported, the 79-year-old delivered a low-key roast of Dax Shepard on his “Armchair Expert” podcast that quickly got fans talking about his marriage to Kristen Bell.

During the January 5 episode, Shepard asked Cher who she would choose as a “dream partner” for Bell, joking that she might deserve someone better than him.

The actress, who starred with Bell in “Burlesque” and has known her for years, didn’t hold back, replying that she trusts Bell’s judgment.

“You must have something that I don’t see,” she added,  a comment many interpreted as a gentle dig at Shepard’s worthiness as a husband.

Cher also reminded the media personality directly that his wife is “definitely the better half” of the couple.

Shepard didn’t stay silent about Cher’s roast. A few days later, the 51-year-old graced the red carpet at the Golden Globes Award night, and shared his thoughts about the singer saying his wife was too good for him.

As The Blast reported, the podcast host made it clear that he and Bell didn’t take it to heart.

“I think we both expected that. That’s why you love Cher, which couldn’t be greater,” he said.

Co-host Monica Padman also weighed in on the situation. She showed admiration for Shepard, noting the fans needed to listen to the whole podcast to know where Cher was coming from.
