Macaulay Culkin is mourning the loss of his on-screen mom, Catherine O'Hara.

The actor took to Instagram with the most emotional tribute to the actress who won hearts alongside him in the iconic film "Home Alone" in the 90s.

Catherine O'Hara passed away at the age of 71 on Friday, January 30, 2026, and left behind her husband, Bo Welch, and their two children, Matthew and Luke Welch.

The actor said his final goodbyes to the actress in a tribute on his Instagram page, which featured an old image of them on "Home Alone" right above another photo of them now, just recently at Culkin's Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony.

"Mama, I thought we had time. I wanted more. I wanted to sit in a chair next to you. I heard you. But I had so much more to say. I love you. I'll see you later," the caption read as Danzig's "Mother" played over the image.

Culkin's post has amassed nearly 300k likes, including nods from Kim Kardashian, followed by thousands of comments, reposts, and shares. All these are an indication of Culkin and O'Hara's enduring bond, which began over three decades ago.

O'Hara's death is definitely a massive loss in Hollywood, and Culkin's comment section is a strong indicator of that. Kardashian led the pack with a single teary-eyed emoji, as author Darcy Michael shared that O'Hara touched so many lives with her talent, and people who felt that firsthand are the ones hurting the most.

"RIP to an absolute legend! Her as Mrs. McCallister will forever be remembered," another fan expressed in the comments, joining another commenter who described O'Hara's death as feeling "like we all lost our Christmas mom."

Three years ago, the epic duo had a mini reunion at Culkin's Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony, which O'Hara attended to give a speech.

According to the late actress at the time, Culkin represented a considerable part of the "Home Alone" universe, and he remained the reason why families worldwide always find their way back to the show.

As noted by PEOPLE, the late media personality gushed about how Culkin gave a perfect performance as Kevin McCallister and made the acting look like the most natural thing in the world. Since then, O'Hara has starred in several notable projects, including "Dick Tracy," "Home Alone," and "Tales from the Crypt." She retained her relevance in the industry up to the point of her death as she was gearing up for season two of the hit Apple TV series "The Studio."

The actress' talent agency released a statement following her passing today, noting that it is very sad news for them to share. However, the cause of her death is yet to be confirmed, but sources confirmed that the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a call at her home at approximately 4:48 a.m.

An eyewitness who saw the actress at Apple TV+'s Primetime Emmy Party at the popular Los Angeles restaurant Ysabel on September 14 testified that she looked amazing and bubbly all through the night. 

According to Page Six, the star flashed a smile at the camera as she walked across in a floor-length black dress. O'Hara took her eye-candy husband as her plus one to the event, and they both posed for pictures looking every inch a happy couple. 

The actress married her sweetheart in 1992, five years after their first meeting on the set of "Beetlejuice." The late screen goddess had earned a 2025 Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series due to her role as Patty Leigh on Apple TV+'s "The Studio."
