Jordan Chiles was recently granted a legal victory in her ongoing fight to reclaim her Olympic bronze medal that was stripped from her during the 2024 Games in Paris.
This update comes more than a year after Chiles was awarded a bronze medal in floor exercise, but her victory was short-lived due to a controversial scoring dispute from the Romanian team.
Jordan Chiles Scores Court Victory In Ongoing Olympic Medal Battle

On Thursday, January 29, it was announced that the highest court in Switzerland (the Switzerland Federal Tribunal) granted decorated Olympian Jordan Chiles an appeal, effectively sending her case back to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) for reconsideration, according to USA Today.
During the last day of the Paris Olympics, Chiles competed in the individual floor exercise event and was awarded the bronze medal, but the celebratory moment immediately turned into full-blown chaos when the Romanian team challenged the results.
Per USA Today, shortly after Chiles’ win, the Romanian Gymnastics Federation claimed the Olympian’s scoring inquiry was not filed within the required 60-second window. However, video released after CAS ruled to strip Chiles of her medal showed that Chiles’ coach, Cecile Landi, did indeed file the inquiry during the appropriate timeframe.
Despite the video evidence, the CAS declined to reconsider its decision to return Chiles’ medal, prompting the Team USA member, along with USA Gymnastics and the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee, to take the issue to the Swiss Federal Tribunal.
The Gymnast Recounted The Incident In Her 2025 Memoir

In March 2025, Chiles released her memoir, “I’m That Girl: Living the Power of My Dreams,” in which she recalled the heart-breaking moment she realized that she would be stripped of her Olympic medal.
“I’m surprised everyone couldn’t hear the sound of my heart breaking, because it absolutely did, there in that back seat. My brain stopped even functioning within my body,” she detailed in the book of the moment she received the news.
“Somewhere faraway, I could see my mom shaking her head. I couldn’t pick out a single thought to focus on,” Chiles continued. “I just took off walking. I don’t know if my family called out after me. I don’t know if they ran to catch up with me. I just took off walking, trying to process those words.”
Chiles Has Been Going Strong Since The Olympic Medal Scandal

As a member of the highly-decorated UCLA gymnastics team, Chiles, who is currently in her senior year, recently delivered her second perfect 10 of the season on both vault and floor exercise, according to the Los Angeles Times.
Her staggering performance this season has many fans already looking ahead at the possibility of Chiles being a member of the Team USA Gymnastics line-up at the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles. With team leader and history-maker Simone Biles leaning more towards not competing in ‘28, Chiles would be the elder member to take the reins.
She previously shared her possible decision on the LA Games. “It’s not a yes, but it’s not a no. I’m allowed to want a lot of things for myself,” Chiles told PEOPLE in February 2025.
“Of course an individual medal is something I continue to strive for. But I know myself, and I know the work and effort I put in [in Paris], and that was a history-making podium. I’m just very proud that I was a part of that,” she added.
The gymnast also used her off-season to take part in ABC’s long-running reality competition series “Dancing with the Stars,” where she was partnered with Ezra Sosa.
She Used The Paris Olympics Controversy As A Lesson

While attending the Black Excellence Brunch during the 2025 ESSENCE Fest last August, Chiles shared how she has moved forward since the scandal and what she’s learned from it.
"I became a New York Times best-selling author... I am a [Sports Illustrated] swimsuit cover nominee. I've been on the AMAs, and I've done all these amazing things," she began during her featured guest discussion slot, per Revolt.
"And I've just been able to really understand that that challenge is something that I don't have to deal with anymore. I can't control it. I can't do anything about it. That's all gone," Chiles told the crowd.
She also explained that taking time to just be herself brought her back from such a trying time.
"I've just been able just to be me. And I think that's something that I missed and something that I didn't get to fully cherish after the horrors,” Chiles said. "I'm happy that now, I can say, 'You know what? Bye. See y'all later.’ This is me. I still have it. I am also a nominee for third-place floor medalist. I'm a gold medalist. I'm all these things."
Chiles Is Shaping Up To Have An Incredible End To Her Collegiate Gymnastics Career

If she continues at the winning pace she’s currently on, Chiles’ final months on the UCLA gymnastics team are set to be legendary, and the perfect way to end her collegiate gymnastics career.
Naturally, once she is done, the focus will once again shift to her being on Team USA in LA 2028, but fans will have to wait and see what the decorated Olympian will do next.
