Lamar Odom has decided to face his addiction struggles head-on after his second DUI arrest.
The NBA champ is looking to be counting sobriety coins in the future as he intends to clean himself up and get off the track of drug use. This decision comes after he was arrested early on January 17, 2026, and charged with driving under the influence and over the speed limit.
Lamar Odom is no stranger to legal issues, as he was previously arrested in 2013 for DUI and was dragged to court last year for owing over $40,000 in rent. His history with drug use goes way back, with a highlight on a moment in 2015 when he almost lost his life to an overdose.
Lamar Odom Checks Into Rehab In Los Angeles

Giving up drugs and healing from addiction is never easy, and Odom has chosen his path to sobriety. He is getting professional help as he wants to put that part of his life away.
His recent DUI arrest sparked the desire to get clean, and the NBA star has checked himself into rehab to aid his journey. Odom registered for a 30-day treatment program at the iRely Recovery facility in Los Angeles.
Odom's run-in with the authorities apparently triggered some past unpleasant memories of what he went through back in 2015 when he almost died of an overdose. Even though he previously shared that alcohol and narcotics did not contribute to his arrest this time, he wants to drop the use of all of them.
Gina Rodriguez, the manager of the former athlete, spoke to TMZ, telling them that he has fears that smoking could trigger his craving for hard drugs again, so he intends to quit marijuana as well.
Odom's goal is to be "clean and clear" once again, and he has high hopes to make this a reality as soon as possible. This marks the first time the former Lakers star would be getting treatment in years, despite his documented history of drug and alcohol addiction.
Inside The NBA Champ's Second DUI Arrest

Odom was arrested in the wee hours of Saturday morning on January 17, 2026. He was booked for driving under the influence, as police officers said the pungent stench of weed filled his car, and they perceived this after he was pulled over for speeding.
He was also slapped with two traffic violations: driving more than 41 miles per hour over the limit and improper lane change or failure to maintain lane. The cops revealed that Odom admitted to smoking earlier in the day.
The 46-year-old maintained in a later statement that he had no alcohol or narcotics in his system at the time of his arrest, but also did not specify what substances officers found in his system. This arrest indeed triggered memories for the NBA champ as he reportedly recalled the night he nearly died during the stop.
Odom shared that although he did not suffer a traumatic brain injury, the aftermath was still tragic. Odom claimed that he suffered twelve strokes and six heart attacks and that he was poisoned at a brothel in Pahrump.
Inside The Former Athlete's 2015 Life-Threatening Overdose

Just two years after his first DUI charge, where the former Lakers star showed objective signs of intoxication and was unable to perform field sobriety tests, he was found unconscious at a Brothel in Nevada.
The situation raised public concern after a source revealed that drugs were found in his system, and doctors were attending to it as a case of overdose. The father of three suffered from a loss of oxygen and was placed on a ventilator, and there were speculations of possible brain damage.
It was previously reported that in the days leading up to the overdose, the former basketballer was reportedly getting really high on crack cocaine in such significant amounts that he choked on his mucous.
All these took place amid his divorce battle with his ex-wife, Khloé Kardashian, who remained at his side throughout his hospital stay. She later spoke up about the incident, describing it as a challenging phase.
The 'Khloé & Lamar' Alum Recounted The Ordeal In His Book

Odom published his memoir "Darkness to Light" in 2019, where he recalled his past experiences, giving a detailed account of what led up to the moment when he had to be rushed to the hospital.
The 6'10 pro athlete admitted that he was influenced, being surrounded by beautiful women and a mound of drugs. He used large amounts of cocaine, cognac, and cannabis, such that he started convulsing, and his heart stopped twice in the process.
The drugs took a significant toll on his body, harming some of his internal organs. "My lungs collapsed and my kidneys ruptured. I was on life support. Everyone I'd ever loved was looking at me through bleary eyes," he disclosed.
When he finally regained consciousness days later, Odom revealed that he could neither talk nor walk, and this was a big fear for him considering his weight and height.
The Blast reported that in his book, the father of three stressed his gratitude for the support he received from the Kardashians, especially Khloé and Kim.
Lamar Odom's Other Recent Legal Issues

Last year, Odom made headlines for another legal battle, but in a different sector. He was ordered to vacate his L.A. home as he reportedly owed the landlord rent. His landlord took the 26-year-old to court, alleging that he failed to pay $45,000 in rent.
It was reported that he previously agreed to pay a $15,000 in rent for the property monthly, but did not hold up his end of the deal for three months at the time.
The sublessor of his L.A. rental, Executive Recovery Group, Inc., claimed that it had issued several notices to the former athlete to pay, but all efforts proved futile.
The former Laker champ failed to acknowledge the warnings and notices to pay or vacate the abode, including the one reportedly mailed to him. As a result, the court ruled against him in April, ordering Odom to vacate the premises and the Executive Recovery Group Inc. to take possession of the home.
