"SNL" cast member Marcello Hernández is setting the record straight. In the past year, there has been talk that the comedian is dating singer-songwriter Sabrina Carpenter, who has appeared in the sketch show multiple times, both as a musical guest and guest host.

Hernández has shut down the rumors, and he has a pretty good reason why he isn't dating one of the biggest pop stars today.

Marcello Hernández's Attendance At A Concert Sparked Rumors

In November 2024, Hernández was spotted at a Sabrina Carpenter concert and was one of the people the pop sensation "arrested" for being "too hot."

At that time, Hernández was dressed up as Domingo, a character in a recurring sketch on "SNL." Carpenter told Domingo, "You sure are gorgeous. I'm getting flustered and overwhelmed. Is there anything you wanna say before I arrest you, Domingo?"

Hernández sang his reply to the melody of the singer's hit tune "Espresso" and said, "Came all this way, had to explain, direct from Domingo. Sabrina's a friend; she's like my sis, but I would hook up, though."

Following the concert, Hernández posted a few photos on Instagram with Carpenter.

The Comedian Is In A Relationship

The 28-year-old comedian was a guest on Dax Shepard's podcast, "Armchair Expert," and the topic of dating Carpenter came up. Shepard explained that he's "obsessed" with the "Juno" singer because his daughter listens to her music, and asked Hernández about his relationship with her.

"If I'm you again and I'm 28, I'm going to try to date her with all my might. Are you not trying your hardest to marry her," Shepard asked.

Hernández answered that he's in a relationship and continued to gush about her girlfriend. "I'm in a relationship with a Dominican girl. She's an architect. She's unreal. She went to Yale," the comedian shared.

Despite shutting down the rumors of being in a relationship with Carpenter, Hernández had nothing but nice words to say about the singer. "Sabrina's really, like, she's down, she's down to clown. She's down to think of something funny. She's an actress," he noted.

Marcello Hernández's Rise To Fame

Hernández attributes his comedic sensibility, surprisingly, to his parents' divorce. As he told Rolling Stone, they split up when he was young and had to "deal with it." "I'm trying to find some fun in it, you know? It's not that funny when your parents get divorced and you're little and you kind of have to deal with it," he told the outlet.

Furthermore, he was the kind of child who couldn't just settle down. "I'm just a very hyperactive person. When there's silence, I get uncomfortable," he explained.

Hernández then got into stand-up comedy and got an audition for "SNL" in 2022. Although he recalled not many people laughing during his audition, he was welcomed as a cast member that year as the fourth Latino in the sketch show's history.

He Debuted His First Comedy Special This Year

On January 7, Hernández released his first comedy special titled "American Boy." The hour-long stand-up comedy show was taped in the comedian's native, Miami, and in it, he made several references to growing up as a first-generation American.

Fans took to social media to heap praise on Hernández, with one saying, "He's so unbelievably talented," and another commenting, "His love for his Miami is so wholesome and refreshing." Another wrote, "OBSESSED. May have watched it 3x already."

"American Boy" is currently streaming on Netflix.
