Nick Reiner's family is worried that additional medical details about the accused could be made public in the coming days.
The alleged killer, who has been in custody since his arrest last December, is accused of murdering his parents, Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner. Details about his alleged schizophrenia have already surfaced in connection with the case, with the condition being suggested as a factor in his erratic behavior.
Nick Reiner has yet to enter a plea and is currently being represented by a public defender after the sudden withdrawal of his hotshot lawyer.
The Family Worked Hard For Years To Keep The Medical History Private

Ahead of next month's proceedings in Nick Reiner's case, reports indicate that his family is deeply concerned about the possibility of further details from his medical history being made public.
According to a source who spoke with Rob Shuter's #ShuterScoop, the family had intentionally kept these details away from the public despite it being known that Nick had mental struggles.
"They've worked so hard to keep these issues private — no one knew about them," a source shared.
Much of the reason Nick's medical history was kept out of the public eye was to protect him. However, if those records are leaked, it is expected to deal a heavy emotional blow to the family, who remain deeply concerned about Nick.
"This is not just a legal case — it's a family tragedy," another insider shared. "They're terrified of what happens if everything becomes public, and of the toll it will take on everyone who loved Rob, Michele, and Nick."
Nick Reiner's Mental Health Struggles And Schizophrenia History Emerged After His Parents' Death

Since his parents' murders, several reports have shed light on Nick's long-standing struggles.
According to People Magazine, by the age of 22, Nick had reportedly been in and out of rehabilitation facilities at least 18 times.
A more recent report by The New York Times also revealed that he was placed under a one-year mental health conservatorship in 2022.
Even more shocking are claims that Nick was diagnosed with schizophrenia several years ago and was receiving treatment for the condition.
During the course of treatment, he reportedly complained to his doctors that the medication was causing significant weight gain, which led to it being changed.
The new medication allegedly sent Nick into an increasingly erratic and dangerous state and has since been cited as a possible trigger for his behavior in the days before the murder of his parents.
Where Is Nick Reiner?

At the moment, Nick has been residing at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility since his arrest in December.
He is charged with two counts of first-degree murder with special circumstances for multiple homicides, plus a special allegation of using a deadly weapon (knife) during the crime.
He has yet to enter a plea, and his most recent court appearance in January was rescheduled for the following month after his high-profile lawyer, Alan Jackson, formally withdrew as his counsel.
At the time, Jackson cited "circumstances beyond control" as the reason that made his continued representation of the accused impossible.
Nick is now being represented by a public defender, and his next court appearance is scheduled for February 23 to give his new representation enough time to review the case.
Rob Reiber's Son's Ex-Lawyer Broke His Silence After His Withdrawal From The High-Profile Case

After Jackson's departure, speculation swirled that he withdrew over financial reasons, particularly Nick's alleged inability to pay his retainer and future legal costs.
However, when asked if this was the case during his appearance on the "Hot Mics" podcast with Billy Bush, Jackson pushed back heavily against the narrative.
"You can't say that. You can't say that, Billy. You can't say that something happened with the retainer because I've never said that," the attorney said, per Fox 11.
Reports also previously claimed that money may have been the case because Nick's family had allegedly "completely" cut him off.
The Alleged Killer's Former Lawyer Says 'It's Important To Right Some Wrongs'

Jackson went on to explain why he was finally speaking out, but ultimately didn't admit the real reason behind his decision to quit the case.
"It was important for me to right some wrongs that had been printed — lots and lots of speculation, lots of people who want to believe certain things," the lawyer noted.
He added, "So with that statement, that's as far as I'm going to go. I believe in it. I believe exactly what I said. What I said is the truth."
