Jamie Lee Curtis weighed in on the Minneapolis shooting with a blunt, emotional post that quickly lit up Instagram, landing at a time when tensions in the city were already running high. Her post comes as federal agents shot and killed 37-year-old Alex Jeffrey Pretti in Minneapolis on Saturday morning. Pretti, an ICU nurse who worked at the Minneapolis VA hospital, was identified by multiple outlets as the man killed by a Border Patrol agent. Following the news, Jamie Lee Curtis shared a carousel that included intense, chaotic images from what appears to be a street confrontation.

One photo shows heavily armored officers moving through a haze of smoke. Another captures a wide overhead view of a snow-lined street dotted with smoke plumes and scattered debris, and another shows a line of masked, tactical-gear-clad officers behind bright yellow police tape as someone in the foreground ducks down.

Curtis paired the imagery with a short caption that shouted, “THIS IS AMERICA!” Under her post, people weighed in on the state of the country and who is to blame, with one commenter asking, “Is it great yet? For those of you who voted for this man, is it great?” Others posted support, “So so sad!! We love you Jamie," while one reply read, "I’m from Germany, and I know what this is. Do something. Now."

DHS Claims Self-Defense, But Tim Walz Calls It ‘Nonsense’

The Department of Homeland Security said the ICE agent acted in self-defense after attempting to disarm Pretti. But Minnesota Governor Tim Walz publicly rejected that version after reviewing the video, calling it “nonsense,” and adding, “What I see with my eyes and what you're going to see with your eyes makes that pretty hard to believe,” according to coverage of his remarks.

The shooting has sparked major scrutiny because multiple videos circulating from the scene appear to show Pretti holding a cellphone rather than a gun at the moment he was shot, and at least one video reviewed by major outlets shows an agent emerging from a scuffle with a gun just before the fatal shot.

Jamie Lee Curtis Previously Backed ‘No Kings’ Protest

Curtis’ latest post also isn’t coming out of nowhere. She’s been increasingly vocal in recent years when it comes to politics and civic engagement, especially when she feels the country is sliding in a dangerous direction. On October 18, 2025, she was one of the high-profile voices showing support for the “No Kings” protest against Trump’s presidency, using Instagram to amplify the movement’s message without directly naming him.

In one post, Curtis shared a photo of what appeared to be a “No Parking Any Time” sign with “Par” blocked out so it read instead, “No king Any Time.” She paired it with a clear call to action, writing, "We have a YEAR to send a real MESSAGE at the BALLOT BOX which is our AMERICAN VOICE, and so, let's get &$@KING BUSY," she captioned her photo.

While she didn’t explicitly mention Trump in that caption, the protest itself was centered around opposition to his presidency, and Curtis didn’t exactly hide where she stood.

The actor also posted a carousel from the day of the protest featuring signs from demonstrators denouncing Trump, including one that read, “The only orange monarch we want in the USA,” alongside images of orange monarch butterflies.

Another sign showed Rosie the Riveter holding Trump in a headlock with the message, “We Can Do It!” Curtis captioned that roundup, "SIGNS 'O THE TIMES! Democracy in ACTION."

Curtis’ reaction to the Minneapolis shooting also fits into a longer pattern of her speaking out when she believes the stakes are high, especially when it comes to Donald Trump. She’s been outspoken since his first term, and when he won the election in November 2024, she posted a lengthy Instagram caption warning his return could mean “a sure return to a more restrictive, some fear draconian time.”

And with her latest “THIS IS AMERICA!” post now sparking another wave of reaction online, it’s clear she’s still using her platform the same way she always has, and always will.
