Savannah Guthrie couldn't hold back the tears after overcoming her voice ordeal!
The broadcast journalist underwent surgery to fix her vocal issues after losing her original voice and ending up with a "scratchier" sound. She detailed the emotional journey on a segment of her NBC News morning show.
Savannah Guthrie's health update isn't the most challenging thing she has experienced to date, as she previously made headlines for her divorce. She tied the knot for the first time to Mark Orchard before finding love again with Michael Feldman.
Savannah Guthrie Breaks Down In Tears Regaining Her Voice

Guthrie opened up about her vocal surgery journey in a segment of the "Today" show, which aired on Friday, January 23. The clip, shared on YouTube, captured the moment the co-anchor heard her voice for the first time following a week of post-surgery rest.
After Dr. Peak Woo inspected her vocal cords, he encouraged Guthrie to speak, and she delivered her usual broadcast greeting. "Good morning, today is Tuesday, January 13, 2026. I am using my voice for the first time, and it sounds good, I could cry," she said.
The moment left Guthrie overcome with emotions, and she broke down in tears while hugging Dr. Woo. She explained that her journey to regaining her voice did not end after the check-up, as she had to undergo voice therapy and take three weeks off from work to recover.
The Broadcast Journalist Underwent Surgery To Remove Two Vocal Issues
In the segment, Guthrie explained that her vocal issues began years ago, but she never believed it was a significant problem. "I noticed my voice got deeper and scratchier, but what I thought was just normal wear and tear and aging," she shared.
Guthrie's lax response to he voice change immediately shifted after the issues became "much worse" in the past year. She claimed it got so bad that she sometimes found it difficult "to get through a sentence," and she sought out Dr. Woo's expertise as a leading voice specialist.
Thanks to the doctor, Guthrie discovered that she needed a microscopic laryngeal surgery to remove a hemorrhagic polyp on one side of her vocal cords. The operation also included the removal of a vocal nodule or a "callus from overuse" on the other side of her vocal cords.

According to Guthrie, undergoing the surgery wasn't the most challenging part of the journey. She had to stay quiet to heal after the operation, a process that was "kind of terrifying" yet "beautiful" for the broadcast journalist.
Guthrie explained that she did not talk for eight days and was "almost silent for about a week after that." During these moments, she had to learn to stay quiet and get used to being alone in solitude. Although it was a bit frightening, Guthrie found a silver lining.
"I found it to be a beautiful, beautiful moment and spiritual moment, and I'm so grateful," Guthrie said about her days of silence. She wasn't alone in feeling happy about regaining her voice as fans flooded the comment section with their congratulations and well-wishes.
Fans Happily Celebrated The NBC News Anchor's Return

Guthrie's fans dropped tons of positive comments, including remarks like "She is radiating now" and "So happy for her." The love and support she received matched the sentiments many shared on Instagram, weeks earlier.
The Blast covered the story, repeating that Guthrie had updated fans about her well-being following her absence for the NBC News morning show. She shared a picture of herself alongside a written message on a whiteboard that read: "All good! Thanks for prayers and love!"
Guthrie also teased her return to TV in the post's caption, noting fans would see her soon. Naturally, her words generated a buzz among IG users, with many praying for her speedy recovery while others advised her to rest and not rush her return to the show.
Savannah Guthrie's Divorce Made Her Question Her Worth

Before Guthrie debuted her new voice on the morning news show, a January 21 episode of "Joy Rides" captured her recounting the pain of her divorce with host Hoda Kotb. In the episode shared on YouTube, Guthrie confessed that she doubted her worth after separating from Mark Orchard.
The TV personality explained that she was in her 30s and just starting a new job at NBC when her first marriage ended in 2009. "And it made me have to really dig deep, and I felt like a failure," Guthrie said about going through a divorce while trying to advance in her career.
She added that she felt old at the time, but looking back, she realized she had been too young to feel disheartened by a divorce. Guthrie eventually regained her confidence through her relationship with God and found love again with her second husband, Michael Feldman.
