Jaime King Facing Another Divorce After Bitter Battle With First Husband

Jaime King is about to be single again!

The actress's second husband, Austin Sosa, had made his intentions to officially file for divorce known in court, bringing their barely 1-year-old marriage to an end.

Jaime King confirmed that she was engaged to her estranged husband last July, although nothing is known about the exact date they tied the knot.

Sosa reportedly filed his divorce petition on Thursday, January 22, about seven months after the banker got down on one knee to propose to the actress. As stated by TMZ, the estranged couple did not have any kids together, which means there will be no custody or child support drama.

King's latest divorce is her second, after she called things off with her first husband, Kyle Newman, in September 2023. The actress broke her silence after news of her engagement became public, stating that she was happy to share the moment with her kids, who also enjoy a loving bond with Austin and his family.

"As always, her sons remain her top priority, and she kindly asks for privacy as they move forward together with love and gratitude," her spokesperson added.

Another source noted to PEOPLE in 2025 that King is very close to Sosa's family and had stayed with them after she moved out of her Los Angeles apartment earlier in the year.

Earlier in the year, The Blast noted that King's engagement might be over after she was spotted out in Los Angeles with hotelier Vikram Chatwal.

The duo were reportedly getting very affectionate at Chateau Marmont a week before they were spotted in January, and later took their romantic party to Chatwal's Bombay Palace restaurant.

Chatwal is far from a newcomer in the Hollywood social scene, although he has kept a very low profile all these years. He is the son of famed hotelier Sant Singh Chatwal and is also part of the crew that launched the Chatwal Hotel in the Lambs Clubs building in Times Square.

He broke the internet for throwing the most expensive wedding in history in 2006 when he married socialite Priya Sachdev in a ceremony that reportedly cost $20 million. The entrepreneur called it quits with Sachdev in 2011 and has since been linked to Spanish model Esther Cañadas and Padma Lakshmi.

The actress spent last year stuck in a custody battle with Newman, and the court awarded both of them legal custody of their two kids. The Blast reported that Newman will still retain decisive authority over legal decisions and also have some physical custody, which means the boys will primarily reside with him.

King was awarded visitation rights, which would give her the chance to see her kids three times a week for a given period and would be primarily supervised. A few supervisors were also approved, including the actress's mom, her sister, brother-in-law, and Newman's brother, Kevin.

The actress was mandated to obey and complete the supervised visitation phase before she could regain access to spending time with the kids unsupervised. She will do this alongside other requirements, such as a 6-month drug and alcohol rehabilitation program, along with weekly testing and aftercare. 

The actress must also go on a 26-week parenting course, individual counseling, and potentially conjoint counseling with her sons as recommended by their therapist.

King's ex declared in a filing in 2020 that the actress struggled with chronic substance abuse, including indulging in drugs and alcohol. Newman noted that she is not willing to acknowledge her problem, either, or even attempt to find any necessary treatment for her problems.

The actress's ex brought King's parenting skills under the microscope, claiming that the harmful substances she consumed during her pregnancy left an adverse effect on their kids. He recalled a few friends informing him of her drinking and doing opiates while she was pregnant with their son, James.

The scenario also replayed itself during their second son, Leo Thames's 20-week prenatal appointment, where they discovered he was battling with addiction in the womb.

Leo also reportedly had a congenital heart defect requiring swift surgery after his birth. Newman added that King often drove while intoxicated with their children in the exact vehicle, thus endangering all their lives.

The Blast reported that the model's ex-husband revealed in his custody filing in 2024 that he received a call from their sons while they stayed at King's house, crying and begging him to come and get them. 

He recalled finding King sitting on the floor of their home, looking drunk and exhausted, while telling him their sons were "bad boys" with very wrong behavior. Newman had to take the kids to school after that encounter, where one of their sons reported the actress to the school therapist. 

The actress's ex added that the school therapist had previously summoned DCFS on King, but there was no response from them. He continued that King's boyfriend at the time also gave concerning reviews about her behavior.
