In a guest appearance on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" on January 21, Short shared a hilarious story that took place at the wedding of his "Only Murders in the Building" co-star, Gomez. Short recounted that the wedding was "beautiful" and "perfect" until the reception.

Short was seated with his other co-stars, enjoying the celebration. After a few hours, however, his co-star Steve Martin bid him farewell. The celebration wasn't over, as Gomez and his new husband, Benny Blanco, hadn't cut the cake yet. Spotting a small, heart-shaped cake by their table, he proceeded to cut a slice to give to Martin, assuming there were cakes provided for each section in the reception.

"I cut the wedding cake, one side, cut it the other and then all the people in our group scream, 'Marty!'" Short said.

Martin Short's Error Was Fixed Before The Cake Was Presented

A big part of the wedding reception is the couple slicing a piece of their wedding cake, but Short went ahead and did it for Gomez and Blanco without their knowledge. He attempted to fix it with his fork, but when that didn't work, he turned to fellow guest Paul Rudd and asked, "So, do we just leave?"

Fortunately, they didn't have to resort to a French exit. They called the attention of the wedding coordinator, who alerted the chef. The chef was shocked but was able to fix the problem. "They did surgery, but it ended up being like a Hollywood wedding cake, and that it was beautiful, but now it had a little work done," Short joked.
