Kristin Cavallari Reflects On ‘Eye-Opener’ Moment After Kids’ Friends Brought Up Her NSFW Podcast

Kristin Cavallari has built a career on transparency with her followers. After starring in reality TV staples like "Laguna Beach," "The Hills," and "Very Cavallari," the MTV icon has broached a variety of topics, from her family life to relationship struggles. However, the reality star recently admitted there is one area where she might have been too candid.

During an episode of her podcast, Kristin Cavallari had an honest chat with fellow podcast host Rachel Bilson about an awkward discussion she had with her children. According to Cavallari, her kids' friends tuned into a past episode featuring the 39-year-old discussing sex with her ex-partner, Mark Estes, who is now 25. After learning the mortifying details, Cavallari said it was enough to reassess her approach behind the microphone for her family's sake.

On the most recent episode of Cavallari's "Let's Be Honest" podcast, the reality star and ex-wife of Jay Cutler revealed that she goes "through phases" of self-censoring on her show.

According to Cavallari, there have been times when she's had to "pull back" and learn to convey her point more discreetly.

Cavallari adopted this mindset after learning that her children's friends informed them that they heard her speaking about sex on an earlier episode of the show with her ex-boyfriend.

"They told me recently that like a year ago or something when I was dating that younger guy, that their friends said they saw he and I played a drinking game or something on the podcast, and they saw some of the sexual stuff that we were talking about," Cavallari told Bilson.

While she didn't appear overly phased by her children hearing about some of her experiences on her show, their friends' discussion of it was a different story. Cavallari said the experience prompted her to pause and reflect on the reach of her platform.

"I need to start being careful because it's really, I don't care at the end of the day what Jax and Camden think about me. It’s my kids. But I can’t be saying stuff that’s gonna affect them and their friends," she said, calling the experience an "eye opener."

The podcast episode Cavallari referenced aired in September 2024 and featured popular TikTok star Mark Estes. During the episode, the two public figures discussed their relationship, which had a 13-year age gap, and some of their intimate details, including orgasms.

Cavallari and Estes parted ways shortly after the episode aired, according to PEOPLE. "Mark and I broke up," Cavallari said at the time, calling the split "hard" because while she had strong feelings for him, she knew the pair weren't fit for each other long-term.

"He's been the best boyfriend I've ever had," the "Dancing with the Stars" alum said. "I just know long-term he needs to experience life, he's young... I started to feel the age a little bit with life experience."

Cavallari has been linked to numerous big-name men in the past, including Morgan Wallen and basketball coach Will Hardy. But there's one group of men Cavallari has vowed to steer clear of: actors.

According to The Blast, Cavallari previously dismissed the entertainers as a "bunch of nerds" before explaining exactly why she's done giving them a chance.

"Typically, actors are very insecure, and I think that's why they become actors, because they're seeking outside validation," she said, later calling them "really cheesy."

Prior to generating headlines with the names above, Cavallari was married to former NFL quarterback Jay Cutler.

The pair met in 2010 before becoming engaged in 2011. They called their engagement off three months after Cutler proposed; however, they reconciled shortly after, tying the knot in 2013.

Cutler and Cavallari share three children, but the dynamic between the married couple wasn't as idyllic as it may have seemed. The pair split in 2020, citing personal challenges and marital strain, according to PEOPLE.

"We have nothing but love and respect for one another and are deeply grateful for the years shared, memories made, and the children we are so proud of," Cavallari said in a statement online. "This is just the situation of two people growing apart."
