A senator from Utah has demanded that Charlie Kirk's alleged killer be executed in public.

Senator Mike Lee, who has been serving since 2011, made the comment in a post on X shortly after Charlie's wife called for a speedy trial of the accused, Tyler Robinson.

Tyler Robinson already faces the death penalty if he is found guilty at trial, but has yet to enter a plea amid the ongoing legal proceedings.

Senator Mike Lee of Utah would rather have Charlie Kirk's alleged assassin publicly executed than go through the legal process of ascertaining his guilt.

The accused is Tyler Robinson, who was arrested days after Charlie was shot in the neck during an event for his nonprofit, Turning Point USA, last September.

Taking to X, Lee wrote candidly, "Execute Tyler Robinson. In public." He had previously made a similar statement, claiming that the accused deserved to be "publicly executed" for allegedly doing the same to the late right-wing influencer.

"Tyler Robinson publicly executed Charlie Kirk," Lee wrote at the time. "Tyler Robinson should be publicly executed."

While there is no law allowing public executions in the state of Utah, Robinson could still face execution, as prosecutors have announced their intention to seek the death penalty if he is convicted at trial.

Social Media Users Blast The Senator Over His Call For A Public Execution

X users were quick to call out the politician for his remarks, with many arguing that such a statement is unbecoming of a sitting senator.

One person noted sarcastically, "Very pro-life of you," while another simply stated, "Due process."

A third person said, "The amount of absolute morons in govt is just mind-bending."

"Mike, you are truly a disgrace to your profession and humanity! STFU!" another individual commented under the senator's post.

One more person stated, "You just called for the public execution of a man who has not yet had his day in court to argue his innocence. Start searching for God before it's too late for your soul."

Lee's call for the public execution of Robinson comes after Charlie's wife, Erika, urged the court to speedily try her husband's alleged killer, per The Blast.

Via her lawyer, she recently filed a motion to that effect, which noted that Utah law allows her to seek a speedy trial as a victim.

"The Utah Code affords victims of a crime 'the right to a speedy disposition of the charges free from unwarranted delay caused by or at the behest of the defendant,'" read the filing by Erika's attorney, Jeffrey Neiman.

"This Court is tasked with the critically important function of ensuring the Defendant has a fair trial, but this Court must also do so while balancing Mrs. Kirk's right to a speedy trial, and therefore this Notice invokes Mrs. Kirk's rights under applicable Utah Code," the doc further read.

Judge In The Tyler Robinson Case Ordered For No Recordings Of The Accused Killer

Robinson last appeared in court on Janaury 16, during which the judge, Tony Graf, was forced to take a drastic move over the pool cameraman's recordings of the proceedings.

"During the remainder of this hearing, the camera shall not photograph Mr. Robinson at all," Graf declared midway through the hearing, per the New York Post.

"That will be the sanction of this court. I will allow the pool camera operator to reposition the camera to adhere to that."

The Utah district judge made the ruling after Robinson's attorneys raised concerns that a cameraman had zoomed in on their client during the proceedings, seemingly to capture private conversations.

The defense also presented previous footage that they claimed showed the cameraman violating an earlier order from Judge Graf regarding recording during hearings.

After considering the attorneys' arguments and making his ruling, Graf also warned that such close-up footage of Robinson could prejudice the remainder of the proceedings. However, he declined to hold the videographer in contempt or issue a fine, though he noted that doing so was within his authority.

The Alleged Charlie Kirk Shooter's Attorneys Want One Of The Prosecutors Removed

The January 16 hearing saw Robinson's attorneys continue their push to remove a local prosecutor from the case over an alleged conflict of interest.

In a previous hearing, Robinson's counsel, Richard Novak, claimed that a family member of one of the prosecutors was present at the event where Charlie was killed, and that keeping that particular prosecutor on the case could prejudice the matter.

Now, as part of their argument to have the request granted, Robinson's attorneys asked for it to be referred to the Utah Attorney General's Office.

In response, Judge Graf declined and ruled that an evidentiary hearing would be held to determine whether the prosecutor should be removed.

Robinson is now expected to return to court on February 3 and has yet to enter a plea.
