In the last few weeks, we’ve had a chance to see Prince George beside his father Prince William in what can only be described as one of the most adorable suits ever. The father and son duo looked spotless while supporting England at the European Championships.
We even saw the Prince being consoled by his parents after the team lost. What most people obviously didn’t miss was the fact that his navy blue suit wasn’t necessarily his regular look. However, according to royal experts, we need to start getting used to seeing George suit up! This is going to be his look moving forward.
Apparently, 8 Is The Age That You Go Formal
According to royal practices that go back hundreds of years age 8 is right around the time that royal and aristocratic children trade in their shorts for a pair of pants. That doesn’t necessarily mean that he’s going to be wearing a suit everywhere that he goes. However, when it comes to formal royal engagements that’s usually going to be the dress code. There are many benefits to being royal. Sadly one of the drawbacks is that you can’t wear your team’s jersey to a soccer match. You have to wear a suit!

The thing is Prince George is actually not 8 quite yet. Why did his parents decide that he’d have to put on the last suit he’ll ever wear already? Actually, he’ll probably dawn many suits, but we had to throw in that movie reference! Sophie Mirman, founder, and creative director at Trotters one of the stores for dressing the Royal children has a theory on this. She told PEOPLE,
“I think it would have been rather strange to see William in a suit and tie and his son in shorts and a polo shirt”
Shorts For School Suit & Tie For Work
Turning 8 doesn’t necessarily mean that we will never be able to see a picture of Prince George with some shorts. After all, we saw Prince Harry literally naked in his 20s. So there are certainly a ton of possibilities. Let’s hope he doesn’t copy his uncle’s Halloween costumes either!
The super posh schools that the royals attend though virtually mandate that the boys wear shorts. Frankly, with the rainy cold days they get in the UK that’s mean. For Prince George moving forward then it’s going to be, shorts for school and a suit and tie for formal events!
Will We Be Seeing George In More Royal Outings?

Certainly seeing Prince George in the stands at England’s games was something the general public was delighted about. That doesn’t necessarily mean that we can get used to seeing him on more and more occasions with his parents. As the future king, the family is going to want to get him started on things like public speaking early for sure. William and Kate though have been known for being able to balance their royal duties with their home life. That’s probably not something that’s going to change much in the coming years!
