Justin Baldoni needed prayers and encouragement the night before his deposition in Blake Lively's case.
The "It Ends With Us" co-stars have been locked in an ongoing battle over the truth of what transpired between them on and off the movie's set. While the actress claims she was sexually harassed and vindictively targeted, the director says otherwise.
Justin Baldoni got deposed in the case on October 6, 2025; however, the transcripts of the nine-plus-hour event have just been unveiled. He previously sued and lost a $400 million defamation lawsuit against Blake Lively, her husband Ryan Reynolds, and their publicist.
Justin Baldoni's Baha'i Faith Shines Through His Deposition In 'It Ends With Us' Drama

During his October 2025 deposition, Baldoni was queried by Lively's attorneys about whether he had told anyone about the event, and he confidently answered that his loved ones had been aware. The list included his family, friends, and his publicist, Jennifer Abel.
"We had a prayer gathering last night with a lot of friends, so they were aware that I was being deposed, but that's all I can think of at the moment," Baldoni said, per the transcripts exhibited in a court filing obtained by PEOPLE.
His Baha'i Faith also came up due to comments about it being compared to a cult. Baldoni admitted that it wouldn't be the first time people had compared his religion to a cult, but he wasn't the type to get worked up about it.
"I think they have every right to say whatever they want," he claimed after being told his crisis publicist, Melissa Nathan, and former TAG PR employee Katie Case once made jokes about his religion.
The Director Received Encouragement From His Publicist Before The Deposition

When asked if he discussed the deposition with his publicist, Baldoni explained that his conversation with Abel wasn't about the deposition itself but words of advice and encouragement. "It was like, 'You're going to do great.' And she was letting me know she was going to be there," he recalled.
"She might have said just to keep being honest and shine your light, or something to that extent," Baldoni added, per the transcripts. He reportedly sat down for the nine-plus-hour deposition, with an hour-long lunch recess, in Los Angeles.
News of Baldoni's prayer gathering the night before the deposition earned him approval from fans on X. "He is a man of God, he is blessed by God, and God protects him. And his faith is, I'm sure, what maintains him alive right now," someone wrote. Another agreed, claiming God was on Baldoni's side.
Blake Lively's Attorneys Sought Sanctions For Alleged Misconduct

Baldoni's October 2025 deposition came over a month before The Blast reported in December that Lively's attorneys had sought legal intervention. They filed documents seeking sanctions against Baldoni's legal reps for allegedly crossing professional and ethical lines.
Lively's corner accused Baldoni's team of repeated misconduct during her deposition and implored the judge to intervene by punishing them. The actress's attorneys claimed the opposing counsel asked intrusive questions about her sexual and romantic past.
The attorneys argued that these questions were not only insensitive but irrelevant to the case. They also accused Baldoni's legal reps of displaying "basic lack of decorum" and acting demeaningly toward witnesses by repeatedly disrupting the deposition.
Justin Baldoni Accused His Former Co-Star Of Setting A Trap

Days earlier, Baldoni's old message to his ex-agent, Danny Greenberg, from December 2023 resurfaced in his ongoing legal battle. The Blast covered the story, reporting that he had accused Lively of trying to harm him with her uncooperative behavior.
In the message, Baldoni complained about Lively asking him to come over to her house for a meeting about the movie. He also highlighted her refusal to use a double for a love scene, which he suspected was an attempt to set him up "for a trap."
Baldoni's frustration continued with complaints of Lively rejecting his storyboards for the movie and trying to rewrite the project to fit her vision. "The whole thing is just a gigantic cluster f-ck, and yet I'm doing my best to stay positive," Baldoni lamented.
Blake Lively's $161 million Legal Battle Faced A Slight Hiccup

Last month, The Blast shared that Lively's plans to take Baldoni to court for $161 million in damages had faced a slight hiccup. The trial was initially set for March 9; however, that date could no longer hold due to a high number of criminal cases.
On that note, Lively's case was given a new date, May 8. Judge Lewis Liman argued that criminal cases took precedence over the former co-stars' dispute and referred both parties to have settlement talks with a magistrate judge. Despite this offer, the duo were hellbent on facing off in court.
As stated, the legal drama began when Lively accused Baldoni of sexual harassment, toxic workplace behavior, and running a smear campaign against her. She demanded $161 million as compensation for personal and financial losses caused by his alleged actions.
