Travis Kelce Fuels Retirement Rumors Amid Plea For Another Year: 'A Tough Thing To Navigate'

Travis Kelce may not be returning to the Kansas City Chiefs for the 2026 season.

"It's a tough thing to navigate," Kelce said about his future in the NFL. "If my body can heal up and rest up and I feel confident I can give it another 18, 20, 21-week run, I think I would do it in a heartbeat," he added; however, he couldn't guarantee his return just yet.

Kelce explained that the best way forward for him is "finding that answer and seeing how the body feels after this game when it all settles down." He revealed that at the end of each season, he enjoyed putting his feet up and "just be a human" to allow his body to recover.

"I've been putting my body through the wringer for the love of it. I do enjoy playing football and the physical aspect of it," Kelce admitted. Despite his fondness for the game, he stressed that he needs to be "a regular human for a couple weeks, maybe a month or so" to figure out what comes next for him.

The athlete continued fueling the retirement rumors by noting he had been in talks with "a few people in the facility" for "exit meetings." Kelce claimed these people knew his current stance about his future in the NFL, but did not share whether this was to quit or take a breather before returning.

Kelce reiterated that he needed a break to spend time with his loved ones and use the distance from the game to figure out his next plans. When his brother referenced his Chiefs teammate, Chris Jones, who believed Kelce had another year in him, he replied: "That's why we love Chris. He's very optimistic."
