New England Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs is facing serious legal trouble at a critical moment in the NFL season, with court records revealing felony and misdemeanor charges tied to an alleged incident earlier this month. The charges come as New England surges toward the postseason, raising questions about how the situation could impact both Diggs and the team as the playoffs approach.
Stefon Diggs Faces Felony And Misdemeanor Charges Following December Incident

According to documents obtained by CBS News, the veteran receiver has been charged with felony strangulation or suffocation and misdemeanor assault and battery, stemming from an alleged incident that occurred on Tuesday, December 2, just one day after the Patriots' dominant "Monday Night Football" win over the New York Giants.
A spokesperson for the New England Patriots released the following statement relating to the recent charges:
"The New England Patriots are aware of the accusations that have been made regarding Stefon Diggs. Stefon has informed the organization that he categorically denies the allegations. We support Stefon. We will continue to gather information and will cooperate fully with the appropriate authorities and the NFL as necessary. Out of respect for all parties involved, and given that this is an ongoing legal matter, we will have no further comment at this time."
Diggs' legal team appeared in Dedham District Court on Tuesday, where they filed a motion requesting that the police report connected to the case be impounded and kept under seal. As of now, a judge has not yet ruled on the request, leaving uncertainty around whether additional information will become public.
Diggs' Arraignment Scheduled Just Days Before Potential AFC Championship

Diggs is scheduled to be arraigned on Friday, January 23, a date that looms especially large given the NFL calendar. The arraignment is set to take place just two days before the AFC Championship game, should the Patriots advance that far. To do so, New England would need a Week 18 win over the Miami Dolphins, paired with a Denver Broncos loss.
In his 11th NFL season, Diggs has been a key contributor to the Patriots' offense. Through 17 games, the wide receiver has recorded 82 receptions, 970 receiving yards, and four touchdowns. His production has played a notable role in New England's playoff push, making the timing of the charges especially significant.
Latest Charges Follow Recent Legal Turmoil For Stefon Diggs

The new charges come just weeks after Diggs was already making headlines for a separate legal battle. In October 2025, the Patriots' wide receiver filed a libel lawsuit against influencer Christopher Blake Griffith, who publicly accused Diggs of attempting to drug and sexually assault him in 2023, and later plotting to have him killed.
As The Blast reported, Diggs vehemently denied the claims and alleged that Griffith fabricated the entire story. Diggs stated in the lawsuit that the two crossed paths in May 2023 after attending a charity basketball game in Washington, D.C., before spending the evening at a club with other internet personalities. Diggs said he later invited the group back to his home in Rockville, Maryland, insisting nothing inappropriate occurred.
That lawsuit marked a highly emotional moment for Diggs, who described the accusations as "horrifying" and damaging to both his career and personal life.
Diggs' Legal Drama Deepens After Ex-Girlfriend Lawsuit

The civil filing followed yet another legal dispute earlier this year, when an ex-girlfriend sued Diggs in October 2025, alleging he physically assaulted her during a volatile altercation in the summer of 2024. Diggs has denied those claims as well.
Social media personality Mulan Hernandez accused Diggs of physical assault during an alleged altercation where he attempted to prevent her from speaking publicly by pressuring her to sign a non-disclosure agreement. She claimed the wide receiver acted "frantically," even sending an assistant to Houston in an effort to secure her signature.
It remains unclear whether an NDA was ever signed.
Stefon Diggs' Legal Case Unfolds As Personal Life Draws Public Attention

Beyond football, Diggs has also drawn attention for his high-profile relationship. The Patriots star is currently dating rapper Cardi B, with whom he just welcomed a child. She's also the mom of 3 children with her estranged husband, Offset.
As for Diggs, he is a father to two daughters. He shares his eldest, Nova, with his former partner, Tyler-Marie, whom he reportedly welcomed in October 2016. Earlier this year, in April, Diggs also welcomed a second daughter, Charliee Harper Diggs-Lopera, with model Aileen Lopera.
As of now, Stefon Diggs has not issued a public statement regarding the charges.
