NFL superstar Tom Brady is opening up about the May 2024 Netflix roast that captured everyone's attention. During an interview with NBA legend Shaquille O'Neal, Brady revealed he wasn't upset about the jokes made during the massive streaming event, despite reports to the contrary. In fact, the Super Bowl champion admitted he "loves being made fun of," and that being roasted by some of the people closest to him reassured him that their friendship is real.

The three-hour roast included jokes surrounding Brady's messy divorce from Gisele Bündchen, Deflategate, his time in the NFL, and New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft. Comedians at the event included Kevin Hart, Nikki Glaser, Sam Jay, and Jeff Ross. A-list celebrities, including Ben Affleck, Will Ferrell, and Kim Kardashian, were also part of the event.

Speaking with Shaq on "The Big Podcast," Brady insisted that despite the headlines, he wasn't upset about being roasted. "No, I wasn’t mad. I thought like… because, and you would appreciate this too, I love being made fun of. Because when they make fun of you, you know they’re comfortable with you," he said. "If they’re comfortable with you, they make fun of you, then you know you’re really friends."

According to Brady, being roasted by the people closest to him, such as former teammates and coaches, only proved that the love they have for him is real. "I think people that never make fun of you, they’re so well behaved, I’m like, man, is this real or not?" he said. "Like, in a locker room, all you do is make fun of people. I’ve made every joke of Gronk and Julian… everybody. It’s just, that’s what we do." Brady further stated that being part of the roast was more "funny" than anything because he knew the participants' intentions. "... all those guys that are doing that are your brothers," he said.

During the Netflix special, Brady took some heat from his lineup of special guests. At one point, Glaser sent the audience into a frenzy after joking, "Tom Brady, five-time Super Bowl MVP, most career wins, most career touchdowns, you have seven rings — well, eight now that Gisele gave hers back."

Glaser addressed her statement in an interview with PEOPLE, revealing that she would apologize to the model if she ever saw her in person. "I mentioned her in a joke, which I did question because she wasn't there, and it's like, ‘She's not asking for this.’ But then I remembered that she's the hottest person in the world, and I go, ‘She can probably handle it.'"

Glaser stated that she'd heard through the grapevine that Bündchen wasn't pleased with her joke. "I think that comedy is always going to upset someone. And I think if I were her, I would've been annoyed too. So I give her that 100%," she said.

Brady Admitted Being Roasted On Netflix Caused Quite A Mess Afterward

In the summer of 2025, Brady appeared on Logan Paul's "Impaulsive" podcast and revealed he harbored a few regrets about how the special played out. Brady told the internet personality that the roast had a major impact on his children. "There's some things as a parent you f-ck up, and you don't realize until after," he said. "We're not perfect parents. You'll see as you grow up, there's no perfect manual for it."

Continuing, Brady maintained that he thoroughly "enjoyed" the roast, calling the segments "incredible." He recalled the energy as "electric [and] crazy," describing the atmosphere as one he'd never forget. "And then I'll never forget when I talked to my kids the next day. I felt like a stake through the heart, understandably," Brady added. The former quarterback-turned-analyst told Paul that a few of his children questioned why he signed up for the roast in the first place, sharing that they're extremely loyal to their family. "They're protective of their mom, of their dad, of everybody," Brady shared.
