“If you wanna be my lover, you gotta get with my friends, Make it last forever, friendship never ends!”
25 years later and those lyrics still ring true, and people all around the world belt those at the top of their lungs on a night out.
The Spice Girls hit single which came out 2016 is celebrating its 25th anniversary this week.
“Wannabe” is a song that defines the childhood, adolescence and adulthood of generation X and millennials alike.
The ladies that comprised one of the greatest girl groups of all time took the time to celebrate the big milestone on social media.
Emma Bunton, aka Baby Spice, wrote on social media, “Zigazigahhhhhh!!! 🎉🎉 Feeling very emotional, what an amazing 25 years it has been. Thanks to our wonderful fans for making 5 girls dreams come true, loving the songs that we wrote, copying our dance routines and embracing our individuality!”

Her “scary” promise will hopefully be coming true soon.
Emma, Mel B, Mel C and Gerri Horner are set to head out on tour this year to celebrate their 25th anniversary. Victoria Beckham, aka Posh Spice, will not be joining the tour, as of now.
Mel C, the sportiest of the spices, wrote, “25 years! Can you believe it?! With the help of our amazing fans this song catapulted us on our incredible journey, so much love and thanks to you guys today, the wonderful Matt and Biff, and my darling Spice Girls ❤️ So many memories! The Strongroom, St Pancras, those stairs! And backflipping all over the World! Happy Birthday Wannabe! Can’t wait until we Zig a zig ahh again!!!”
Despite not wanting to join her former bandmates on a reunion tour, Victoria did pay tribute to the anniversary on her Instagram story.
The fashionista of the group posted this message, “I can’t believe it’s been 25 years since Wannabe was released!! The song that changed everything.”
And last, but certainly not least, Ginger Spice, whose real name is Geri Horner, posted a carousel of three photos with a meaningful memory for each.

She described the first photo of the girls as being taken in her back garden. They girls were listening to the radio and their song had gone number three.
Geri posted their first ever photoshoot which showcased five fresh, baby faced girls from Britain, and the next one featured a picture of a gold ring with the “Spice Girls” etched into it.
“And the famous ring… I bought a gold ring for each of the girls when we first got together, as a symbol of our friendship. It’s a special bond that continues to stand the test of time. I’m so proud of everything we have achieved together, girls. BIG thank you to our amazing fans from all over the world for your support and loyalty. Love, Ginger,” the singer wrote.
Thank you Spice Girls for 25 years of wanting to be your best friend and making sure our friendships last forever!
