Nick Reiner was reportedly dealing with a romantic setback at the time he allegedly killed his parents, Rob Reiner and Michele Singer Reiner.
The 32-year-old is said to have been rejected by someone he was interested in, a blow that allegedly deepened an ongoing downward spiral fueled by drug issues. Reports have also described Nick as socially awkward, which seemingly made it difficult for him to maintain meaningful relationships.
Nick Reiner is currently being held without bail in connection with the murder of his parents and will be arraigned in court next year.
Nick Reiner Was Romantically Rejected Before The Murders

In the aftermath of the Reiners' deaths and the linking of their son, Nick, to the killings, intense scrutiny of his troubled life has uncovered a series of shocking revelations.
The latest reports suggest the 32-year-old was facing romantic difficulties at the time he allegedly killed his parents at their Brentwood home in Los Angeles, just one night after a heated argument at a Christmas party.
According to a source who spoke with Rob Shuter's #ShuterScoop, Nick had just faced a brutal romantic rejection that not only left him hurt but also unable to deal with it due to his alleged social issues.
"He'd just been turned down," the insider said about the alleged parent killer. "He was awkward, overbearing, and completely unable to handle rejection. People didn't stick around because he came on too strong."
Describing Nick's attempts to forge meaningful relationships, a different insider said they almost always ended with people ghosting him due to his persona.
"He'd think there was chemistry, then they'd disappear," the source revealed.
Rob Reiner's Suspected Son Drove People Away With 'Desperation And Obsession'

Rather than seeing the rejections as a sign to work on himself, Nick allegedly chose to become increasingly "toxic," including toward his loved ones.
"He doubled down, and it made him even more toxic to anyone around him," the second insider further remarked.
The more people he met and tried to connect with, the more people he lost, with most choosing to stay away due to his intensity and poor judgment.
"Nick couldn't read social cues," one insider adds. "He drove people away with desperation and obsession."
In no time, Nick's relationship ordeal, as well as the destructive nature of his alleged drug addiction, made him spiral further.
This, according to sources, may have had a massive influence on the tragic murders of the Reiners, who, earlier reports claimed, had tried their best to help Nick with his drug issues but ultimately failed.
Nick Reiner Had A Propensity For Violence, Says Longtime Neighbor

With much of the world still shocked by the Reiners' murders, and even more startled by allegations that they were killed by Nick, his show of violence has not come as a surprise to some.
Recently, a longtime neighbor of the deceased couple alleged that Nick had always shown a propensity for violence and had even been involved in violent incidents in the past.
"This is not the first time their son has been violent," the source told the New York Post.
"I know of another incident a few years back with Nick, but I won't say more than that," added the anonymous informant. "I just never thought it would ever get to this point."
Rob Reiner Was 'Petrified' Of His Alleged Killer Son

Nick's violent tendencies were further exemplified by the fact that he engaged in a heated argument with his parents at a Christmas party several hours before their murders.
The altercation was so intense that Reiner reportedly confessed to his friends later that he was "petrified" by his son and that he believed he could be harmed by him.
"I'm petrified of him," Reiner allegedly said, per the Daily Mail. "I can't believe I'm going to say this, but I'm afraid of my son. I think my own son can hurt me."
Where Is Nick Reiner?

Nick is currently in custody awaiting his arraignment on January 7 after he waived his rights to a speedy arraignment during his first court appearance earlier this week.
He is currently being charged with two counts of first-degree murder with a special circumstance of multiple murders.
These charges carry a maximum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole or the death penalty if he is found guilty at trial.
For now, the motives behind Nick's alleged killing of his parents remain unclear. However, new reports suggest that it may not have been due to any specific reason, but rather a mental health issue, as he was "out of his head" while taking new medications for schizophrenia at the time.
