More details have emerged about the fight Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele, had with their son Nick at a Christmas party hosted by TV icon Conan O'Brien.
According to reports, O'Brien had prevented other attendees who witnessed the argument from calling in the authorities to step in. He was said to have declared that he wanted no police at his house, despite the altercation being pretty intense.
Barely 24 hours after the fight, Rob Reiner and his wife were found dead in their Brentwood home, and their son, Nick Reiner, was arrested and charged in connection with the murders.
Why The TV Icon Stopped His Party Attendees From Calling The Cops On Nick Reiner

Attendees at the O'Brien Christmas party had reportedly tried to call the police during Reiner's argument with his son, Nick, but were stopped by the comedian.
"They got in an argument, the father and son. It got so bad and loud [that] someone wanted to call the police to report it," a source told the Daily Mail.
"But Conan stepped in and said, 'It's my house, my party, I'm not calling the police.' He talked them out of calling the police,'" added the source.
Someone else who may have been at the party also claimed that at some point, guests began worrying about Nick's mental state and doubled down on the idea of calling the cops. However, O'Brien still insisted that the cops shouldn't be called.
"When the sh-t was hitting the fan, somebody said we need to call the police. The conversation was about getting this kid put into a mental health hold," the other source stated.
They added, "Conan O'Brien stepped in and said, 'No, I don't want the police at my house.'"
Conan O'Brien Feels Guilty About Failing To Intervene

Barely 24 hours after the party hosted by O'Brien, the Reiners were found in their Brentwood home with stab wounds, which were allegedly inflicted by their son.
As such, it came as no surprise that reports later emerged of O'Brien feeling guilty about the situation, particularly because he had failed to intervene.
"He keeps thinking, 'What if I had stepped in? What if I'd pulled Rob aside or shut it down?" an insider recently informed Rob Shutter's #ShutterScoop. "He feels like maybe he could have changed the course of what happened."
"Conan is replaying every detail in his mind," another insider said about O'Brien. "He's wracked with guilt and keeps wondering if anything he did—or didn't do—could have made a difference."
Rob Reiner Told His Friends He Was 'Petrified' Of His Son After The Fight

It has also recently come to light that Reiner was in fear for his life following the altercation with his son.
The late filmmaker reportedly left the O'Brien Christmas party with his wife after the confrontation, but not before telling friends that he believed his son could harm him.
"I'm petrified of him," Reiner reportedly said, per a Daily Mail source. "I can't believe I'm going to say this, but I'm afraid of my son. I think my own son can hurt me."
Sadly, no one at the time appeared to have taken the comments very seriously, given the eventual deaths of Reiner and his wife, Michele.
Their deaths have since been ruled by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner as resulting from "multiple sharp force injuries."
Nick Reiner Has Been Placed On Suicide Watch

Shortly after Reiner and his wife's bodies were discovered, Nick was arrested in connection with their deaths.
He has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder, with the special circumstance of multiple murders.
He is being held without bail and was placed on suicide watch. He also made his first court appearance earlier in the week, during which he wore a suicide prevention vest.
Rob Reiner's Son Faces The Death Penalty If Found Guilty Of His Parents' Murders

Nick is scheduled to appear in court next for his arraignment on January 7 and has retained the services of high-profile lawyer Alan Jackson.
During the arraignment, he will be allowed to enter a plea if he chooses to do so.
If Nick is ultimately found guilty of murdering his parents at trial, he could face the death penalty or life imprisonment, according to Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman, who revealed this during a press conference on the murders.
