The theories are buzzing now that things have taken the legal route in Michele and Rob Reiner's murder case!

Talk King, Billy Bush is asking the big question about who may be the financial powerhouse behind the legal fees for Nick Reiner's apparently pricey attorney, and suggests there is a bigger plan at play.

Michelle and Rob Reiner, before their death, have reportedly confided in a few friends about the poor state of their son's mental health, which was deteriorating by the minute.

The YouTuber came online for a quick review of the ongoing case and the fate that may likely await Nick as things progress. He also addressed the speculation about how Nick was able to employ the legal services of his defense attorney, Alan Jackson.

"Everybody's asked me because I know Alan Jackson, you know, how has Alan Jackson come to be the defense attorney for Nick Reiner?" Bush began in the clip posted on his Instagram.

He assured that more details about that emergence would be revealed in the coming days, as he does not really have a specific answer for that question.

However, the media personality slipped in his own thoughts, stating that Rob, during his lifetime, was known as a progressive icon who may not necessarily agree with the death penalty, although it is looking like Nick may get that.

Most importantly, Bush feels that someone within the family might have hired the defense attorney. The media personality's list ranged from his siblings to his cousins or a close friend of the family who shares Rob's liberal sentiments.

The Public Commentator Predicts Nick Reiner's Mental Illness May Influence The Case

The radio host took his audience through a brief history of Los Angeles' current stance on the death penalty and connected it to the body language of Rob when he was alive, who was against the concept of the death penalty.

"I think Rob also…and his wife Michele had been complaining to friends, reportedly in the last several weeks and months, that they felt Nick's mental state was deteriorating, and they were really, really worried about him," Bush continued.

The radio host added that the family may also be very aware that Nick is very mentally ill and has now employed Alan to help him get a "not guilty by reason of insanity" verdict. Bush explained that this kind of judgment would confine him to the premises of a state psychiatric facility rather than a level four prison.

"And I think that that's probably…as sad, and hurt, and angry, and all the emotions that come with losing your parents to their son and a knife, they see the mental illness in a loved one, and I think for some reason they can supersede that anger," Bush noted.

The media personality stated that it may mean Nick would not be admitted to trial until he is deemed mentally capable. He added that he also thinks it would be Rob and Michele's wish that their son gets psychiatric help rather than be thrown in a level 4 correctional facility.

The TV host's brilliant dissection of the ongoing situation impressed hundreds of commenters who trooped under his post to share their thoughts.

"Very insightful. The love of the Reiners perseveres," one commenter stated, as another Instagram user expressed their gratitude that Bush took the time to break things down. Another fan completely agreed with Bush's take and described the situation as an impossible and very sad development.

Another Instagram user noted: "Like your take. I've been frustrated by the comments saying how could AJ take him on as a client. AJ is a criminal defense attorney; Nick needs legal representation. In the court of the public, he's a bad dude, and that ship has sailed, but he has rights."

This fan shared that Nick had probably been battling his mental illness for a while, which has now encouraged his addiction and eventual provocation that led to this unfortunate outburst.

Nick Reiner's Attorney Addressed The Press Over His Client's Complex Case

The man of the hour finally broke his silence as Nick made his first court appearance today. As shared by PEOPLE, Alan Jackson acknowledged the incident as a very devastating tragedy while commiserating with the entire Reiner family.

The attorney continued that the case involving Nick and his role in the death of the couple remains a very complex one, which needs to be "thoroughly, but very carefully, dealt with, examined, looked at, and analyzed.

He urged the public to give the system a chance to handle the case accordingly at the appropriate pace, just the way it was designed.

"Not with a rush to judgment, not with jumping to conclusions, but with restraint and with dignity and with the respect that this system and this process deserves and that the family deserves," Jackson added.

In court, Nick reportedly consented that the court waive his right to a speedy arraignment. He did not enter a plea on Wednesday, and his arraignment will continue on January 7, 2026.

During an interview in 2017, Nick opened up about the genesis of his relationship with substance abuse and how it changed his life. As noted by The Blast, Nick said that it all started at 14, when he stole $200 to patronize a sex worker he found online after his friend recommended a search on Craigslist for one.

Since that encounter, Nick shared that he had become a regular occupant of rehab centers and even became homeless for years. He described his stint living with homeless people on the street as one of the most pivotal moments of his life.

Nick recalled meeting great people during his sojourn as a homeless person, and the experiences, combined with time away from his family, aided his decision to become sober in 2015.

Till the deaths of Rob and Michele, Nick had reportedly stayed in their guesthouse to enable close supervision, as his mental health had reportedly gotten progressively worse. The trio even attended an exclusive Christmas party on Saturday, where Rob and Nick got into a heated argument.

By Sunday afternoon, the director and his wife of over three decades were found dead from stabbing wounds inside their Brentwood home.
