Micah Curtis Sykes, who is facing a felony murder charge for allegedly stabbing his father to death, will not be regaining his freedom following the outcome of a December 11 hearing. Deputy District Attorney Cesar Rodriguez requested that the victim's son be held without bail.

Micah initially had a chance of regaining his freedom after his bail was set to $4 million; however, Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Theresa R. McGonigle granted Rodriguez's request to make an amendment. Therefore, Micah was ordered to stay in police custody.

According to ABC7, the prosecution argued that Micah was a risk due to his schizophrenia diagnosis. Rodriguez explained that Micah was supposed to be "medicated," but was either under-medicated or not following his doctor's recommendation.

Jubilant Sykes' Murder Was Witnessed By His Wife

Rodriguez added that Jubilant's murder was witnessed by his wife, Cecelia, and Judge McGonigle had issued a protective order that prevented him from contacting her on Thursday, December 11.

The protective order was another reason the prosecutor pushed for no bail, as Micah was homeless and primarily dependent on his parents. Rodriguez also noted that the other members of the Sykes' family were in court while Cecelia couldn't be there.

Micah did not miss his mother's absence and interrupted Rodriguez at one point to question the judge about Cecelia. "I don't see my mother here... This person's not telling the truth whatsoever," he reportedly said.
