Harrowing details regarding the murder of Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer, continue to emerge. What is certain, however, is that their son, Nick Reiner, was arrested and charged in connection with the brutal slayings. Now, a resurfaced podcast episode in which Nick admits to previously destroying his parents' home in a drug-induced fit reveals the strained relationship with his parents may have been even worse than imagined.
Nick Reiner Admits To Previously Destroying Rob Reiner's Home While Being 'Sequestered'
Nick, a screenwriter, appeared on the "Dopey" podcast in 2018 and shared a chilling story about the time he was "sequestered" in his parents' guest home while high "on meth."
"I went 10 rounds in my guest house," Nick shared.
"It's not much of a story. I got totally spun out on uppers — I think it was coke and something else — and I was up for days on end," he said around the 37:44 mark of the above video. "I started punching out different things in my guest house."

As the episode progressed, Nick explained that his anger led him to punch different items in his parents' guest house, including the TV.
"Everything in the house got wrecked," he added.
When the co-hosts asked Nick whether he could remember specific details, like whether he'd cut his hand while punching the electronic device, he said he couldn't.
Nick further shared that he had "no logic" at the moment before noting he could've been angered by his parents' push to get him to seek treatment.
Nick Reiner Worked With Father Rob On 'Being Charlie,' A Movie About His Addiction Struggles

Nick's personal battles with drugs and addiction have been well-documented over the years.
In 2015, Nick collaborated with his father on the semi-autobiographical project, "Being Charlie."
According to the movie's description, the lead character is a troubled 18-year-old who leaves rehab and attempts to navigate the world on his own.
"That made me who I am now, having to deal with that stuff," Nick said about the movie, according to The Blast. "I met crazy great people (while homeless), so out of my element. Now, I've been home for a really long time, and I've sort of gotten acclimated back to being in LA and being around my family. But there was a lot of dark years there."
Rob, on the other hand, stated that working on the film helped him connect with his son differently. "... it forced me to have to see more clearly and understand more deeply what Nick had gone through, and I think it forced him to see things that I had experienced during this process," he said. "The whole process for me – I can just speak for myself – it did make me understand him a lot more, and it did make me a better father. Hopefully it did."
Nick Was Arrested And Charged With Murder Following His Parents' Tragic Passing

Details regarding the gruesome murder of Rob and Michele are still being released; however, sources confirmed that Nick was arrested in connection with the slayings and later booked on murder charges. Nick is being held in a Los Angeles-area jail on $4 million bond.
Reports confirmed that Rob and Michele's youngest daughter, Romy, discovered her parents in their Brentwood home before calling first responders. Rob's adopted daughter from his marriage to Penny Marshall also opened up about his passing and noted that she was "in shock."

Celebrity chef and TV personality Anne Burrell, who appeared on the Cooking Channel's "Worst Cooks In America," was found unresponsive inside her New York home in July 2025. Officials later confirmed that the 54-year-old had died by suicide.
Days later, "The Cosby Show" alum Malcolm Jamal Warner died by drowning in Costa Rica after being caught in a rip current near Cocles Beach.
On July 22, rock star Ozzy Osbourne died of a heart attack after dealing with complications from Parkinson's disease.
