Barack Obama ‘Heartbroken’ Over Tragic Deaths Of Rob Reiner And Wife Michele

Public figures are reeling over the shocking death of legendary actor and director Rob Reiner. Rob and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were found dead in their home on Sunday, December 14, 2025, in a tragedy that has left Hollywood stunned. While details are still unfolding, reports have now confirmed that the couple's 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, was booked into a Los Angeles jail in relation to the case and charged with murder.

In the early hours of December 15, 2025, former President of the United States Barack Obama wrote an emotional tribute to Rob, who shot to stardom after starring in the classic sitcom "All in the Family."

"Michelle and I are heartbroken by the tragic passing of Rob Reiner and his beloved wife, Michele," Barack shared on X, formerly Twitter. "Rob’s achievements in film and television gave us some of our most cherished stories on screen. But beneath all of the stories he produced was a deep belief in the goodness of people—and a lifelong commitment to putting that belief into action."

The 44th POTUS continued, "Together, he and his wife lived lives defined by purpose. They will be remembered for the values they championed and the countless people they inspired. We send our deepest condolences to all who loved them."

According to multiple outlets, including CNN, Rob's son, Nick, was arrested and charged with murder. Nick is the middle child of the Hollywood power couple. The screenwriter was booked on Monday, December 15, and is being held on a $4 million bond.

LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell was brief when commenting on Nick's arrest and subsequent charge, stating, "Our hearts go out to the family and friends of the Reiners, a tragic incident."

While details continue to emerge about Nick, it's been widely reported in the past that the "Being Charlie" writer struggled with addiction.

"That made me who I am now, having to deal with that stuff," he told PEOPLE. "I met crazy great people (while homeless), so out of my element. Now, I’ve been home for a really long time, and I’ve sort of gotten acclimated back to being in LA and being around my family. But there was a lot of dark years there."

Rob, who directed the film, previously admitted that working on the project helped him see his son's struggles in a different light. "... it forced me to have to see more clearly and understand more deeply what Nick had gone through, and I think it forced him to see things that I had experienced during this process," he said.

"The whole process for me – I can just speak for myself – it did make me understand him a lot more, and it did make me a better father. Hopefully it did," he added.

In an interview with NBC News, Rob's daughter, Tracy Reiner, revealed she was visibly shaken by the news of her father's death, noting that she saw him the day prior at a family event. She expressed love and appreciation for her family, later stating that she was in complete "shock." The Blast reported earlier that Rob and Michele were found by their daughter, Romy.
