In the same Instagram post, Amy Schumer leaned into humor while shutting down speculation about what caused the breakup.

Referring to her recent weight loss, she wrote, “Blah blah blah not because I dropped some lbs.” She also dismissed suggestions that Fischer’s looks played a role, insisting the split was not because he is a “hot James Beard award-winning chef who can still pull some hot tail.”

Despite the jokes, insiders say the situation was emotionally complex.

“Amy can joke all she wants about her relationship now that it is heading toward divorce, but this was a long time coming and she is equal amounts happy and sad,” one source told the Daily Mail.

The insider added that Schumer was telling the truth about looking forward to co-parenting Gene, but her focus had shifted toward rebuilding both her personal life and career.

Friends say Schumer’s career ambitions played a major role in the breakup.

An insider told the outlet that when “Trainwreck” came out in 2015, the “I Feel Pretty” actress was “on fire” and receiving many offers she ultimately turned down.

However, after becoming a mother, she slowed down professionally and did not pursue her career as aggressively as she once wanted.

Now, nearly a decade later, Schumer is reportedly trying to reclaim that momentum.

The source said she realized she could not have everything at once, and the part of her life that suffered most was her marriage.

Alongside this shift, Schumer underwent a dramatic physical transformation, shedding 50 pounds with the help of weight-loss medications.

According to those close to her, the change brought renewed confidence and a desire to fully reengage with comedy, film, and television.

Signs of trouble became more visible in November when Amy Schumer deleted all photos from her Instagram and replaced them with a single image of herself, noticeably without her wedding ring.

Months prior, sources revealed that the couple had listed two properties, in Brooklyn and New Orleans, fueling speculation that they were separating.

One close friend told the Daily Mail that the star was “100 percent getting divorced,” adding, “She got skinny, she is over it.”

Another insider said Fischer was “mostly out of the house at this point,” and noted that Schumer had stopped mentioning her husband in conversation.

The distance also extended to public appearances, with the couple last photographed together on a red carpet in June 2025.

Sources say the dynamic between Schumer and Fischer became increasingly difficult to manage.

Fischer was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder shortly after their wedding, something Schumer had previously spoken about openly.

According to a friend, the condition made things challenging, explaining that Schumer’s “brutal honesty” was both a blessing and a curse in their relationship.

“He doesn't even get her jokes, and being funny and making people laugh is important to her,” the friend said.

Schumer herself once addressed this in her 2019 Netflix special, saying, “I knew from the beginning that my husband’s brain was a little different than mine.”

She added that the traits linked to his diagnosis were also the reasons she fell in love with him.

However, insiders now say that as Schumer changed emotionally and physically, the gap between them widened.

One source summed it up by saying Schumer wanted more out of life, and that realization ultimately changed everything.
