The move that Joe Rogan made taking his famous Joe Rogan Experience to Spotify made him a ton of cash! It hasn’t come without its fair share of controversy though. That being said, we are talking about Joe Rogan here. Controversy is his middle name it seems. Earlier this year it was reported that many of the past episodes of the show were cut from his library on Spotify. The move was made because of the controversial topics that were being discussed on the show that particular day. Spotify employees are now reportedly looking for more censorship on Joe!
What Spotify Employees Are Allegedly Saying About Rogan
Do you ever worry about who actually reads the work emails or messages on group chats that you send? It turns out this is a problem Spotify employees now share with Hilary Clinton. There is someone inside Spotify that’s leaking private conversations. That’s a story for another day though. Insider got their hands on a group chat of Spotify employees on the app fishbowl. In one interaction an employee had this to say about Rogan,
“I’m personally bothered by his transphobic comments and am concerned with the way he might spread misinformation,”
Is Joe In Any Type of Trouble?
Most people in the know just attribute these attacks to a loud minority within the company. Joe Rogan’s podcast was labeled the most popular podcast on the streaming platform for the year 2020. We’d also have to factor in the fact that he signed a 100 million dollar contract. When you add that up it’s pretty clear to see why most of the companies top executives are not really paying much attention to the demands of their employees. That hasn’t deterred employees from seeking to have their voices heard.
Spotify Employees Tried & Failed To Have Joe Censored
Back in September of last year company employees requested to have a meeting within the company to discuss the “anti-transgender” views that they accused Joe of having. This sentiment may have come after one of Joe’s shows where he openly criticized the fact transgender athletes were being allowed to play women’s sports. A sentiment since echoed by Caitlyn Jenner of all people.
In October Spotify formally rejected a proposal to have Joe’s podcast go through an internal “editorial supervision”. At the time Rogan took to Twitter to rub the decision in the face of the people who were trying to get him censored. Talk about a toxic workplace!
Joe Has Had To BackTrack Some Of His Comments
It’s not like Rogan has completely come out unscathed in these run-ins with the Spotify community. For example, he was forced to backtrack his comments on vaccination that he made earlier this year. Where he mentioned that healthy teens and twenty-year-olds should not be looking to get the vaccine since their bodies could handle COVID without any type of trouble.
There are also other Spotify employees that are in Joe’s corner. For many Spotify executives, the deal they made with Rogan has been a success. Since he’s brought a massive audience to the platform. Pro Rogan employees mention,
“Getting him on Spotify is going to help bring a lot more audiences onto the platform, and hopefully we can spread that to other programming.”
