Gayle King is determined to steer clear of the drama at CBS.
The TV personality has decided to address the rumors about her job at CBS, and she’s making one thing clear— she is not going to feed into the false narratives.
King’s future at CBS was rumored to be on shaky grounds amid a major overhaul. Her contract with the network expires next year, and she is reportedly expected to step down or be transferred to another role.
Gayle King Addresses Rumors About Her Future At CBS

King was recently featured in an episode of “Sherri,” during which she addressed rumors that she was being forced out of her job at CBS.
She acknowledged that most of the rumors hold no water and made it clear that she isn’t going to play to the media. “I saw those rumors. What I say is this: ‘I’m not going to negotiate in the press,'” King told Shepherd, as reported by Page Six.
“I hear one thing in the building and one thing outside of the building. I’ll be reading one thing, and I’m like, ‘that’s not true,’” she added.
The 70-year-old broadcast journalist acknowledged that there was no smoke without fire, noting that there was certainly some drama at CBS. However, she has made it a point of duty to stay out of it and focus on the job that pays her.
“I’ve decided I’m going to stay out of the drama — and there is some drama,” she said. As for her career safety, King didn’t confirm or deny if she would still be with the network in the coming year.
However, she noted that she likes the job and has received positive feedback about her performance. “I like the job, and I’m told they liked me,” she said.
Despite it all, King acknowledged that there have been some major changes at CBS. She referenced Tony Dokoupil’s promotion to anchor of “CBS Evening News,” noting that it would shake things up. However, she’s still patiently waiting to see what the future holds for her.
“Tony’s promotion is certainly going to mean changes at CBS Mornings. There’s no question about that, so we shall see,” she concluded.
CBS Reportedly Values Gayle King Amid Overhaul

King’s statements came over a month after a spokesperson for CBS shed some light on the TV host’s future at the network.
According to The Blast, the spokesperson revealed that the network had yet to have any discussions about King’s contract with them, which runs through May 2026.
“She's a truly valued part of CBS, and we look forward to engaging with her about the future,” the spokesperson added.
At the time of the report, there were also rumors that King may step down from her role as anchor of “CBS Mornings” and assume another role in the news division.
Gayle King Was Reportedly Planning To Leave The Network

Months before rumors started circulating about King’s role at CBS, another report surfaced, claiming that the TV host was already planning to leave the network because she didn’t want to be weighed down by the drama.
According to The Blast, an insider said it would be a “miracle” if King decided to renew her contract for another year.
The informant explained that King wanted to leave because she didn’t want her “legacy” to be ruined by all the drama going on at the network.
As such, she was said to have been “weighing her next move” carefully.

One of the major sources of drama at the network boils down to the overhaul that affected some of the news anchors.
Although King wasn’t directly affected, her co-anchor on "CBS Mornings," Tony Dokoupil, was moved to a new role. He was named the next anchor of “CBS Evening News” six years after becoming an anchor on the network.
This move left other anchors feeling uncertain about their roles at the organization, including King, who said, “I think it’s a great decision for all of us. Now, what are we gonna do, guys? What’s gonna happen to us?” per The Hollywood Reporter.
Donald Trump Slammed Gayle King, Claiming Her Career Was Over

Months before Dokoupil’s new role was announced, President Donald Trump went on an unhinged rant on social media, slamming King for having no “talent” and “strength.”
The president also reposted an article that claimed King’s job was in jeopardy, and rejoiced over it, writing, “Gayle King's career is over. She should have stayed with her belief in TRUMP. She never had the courage to do so,” per The Blast.
