According to an Open Field press release, Dane's upcoming memoir would detail his life and the most critical moments that shaped him, including his ALS diagnosis. The Daily Mail reported that the project was titled “Book of Days: A Memoir in Moments.”

Dane shared more about the memoir in the press release, noting: “I wake up every morning and I'm immediately reminded that this is real — this illness, this challenge, and that's exactly why I'm writing this book.”

Shriver also shared her thoughts about the memoir in the press release, claiming Dane wanted to give his two daughters and family “something to be proud of.” Besides writing the book for his loved ones, the actor hoped to raise awareness about ALS.

The former First Lady of California explained that Dane's memoir would help people understand more about ALS, what happens to people with the condition, and to become “compassionate partners” to those battling the neurodegenerative disease.

The memoir announcement comes days after Dane shared the brutal reality of life with ALS. The Blast covered the story, reporting that he claimed he had no reason to be in a good spirit each day; however, he wasn't the type to give up without a fight.

The TV Personality Was ‘Pleasantly Surprised’ By His Positive Mindset

Dane noted that no one would blame him if he chose to stay at home and cry for two weeks, but he “was a little bit pleasantly surprised” to realize that his mindset was stronger than he assumed. He confessed that he thought he would be the type to wallow instead of radiating positivity.

The entertainer was grateful for his positive mindset, stating that it was “very encouraging” to have a “buoyant spirit in the face of something so horrible.” Dane stressed that not everyone would feel the way he did with ALS, which made his advocacy all the more essential in helping others.

Although he dubbed himself “a selfish person,” Dane could not help but push for more ALS awareness and funding because he soon realized that his battle wasn't his alone to bear. He has since teamed up with I Am ALS to spread the word about the neurodegenerative disease.

Eric Dane Returned To Acting With An ALS Role

Last month, The Blast shared that Dane had stolen the hearts of fans for his emotional portrayal of a firefighter with ALS. He played Matthew Ramati on an episode of "Brilliant Minds" that was dedicated to raising awareness about the neurodegenerative disease.

Fans shared their love and support for Dane on X following the episode, with many noting that they found it heartbreaking to watch since the actor had ALS in real life. On the other hand, some fans declared that Dane would always be their Dr. McSteamy, referring to his “Grey's Anatomy” character.

The medical drama's showrunner, Michael Grassi, echoed similar sentiments about Dane's performance in an interview. The filmmaker revealed the entertainer's acting was so good that he had the show's crew on their feet for ten minutes, applauding him.
