The news that Billups sold his Lake Oswego home comes after he was arrested in October 2025 and indicted in the US District Court for the Eastern District of New York on charges of wire fraud, conspiracy, and money laundering conspiracy.

Prosecutors in the case allege Billups served as a "face card" or celebrity lure for high-stakes, rigged poker games allegedly organized by members connected with the mafia.

The games allegedly used advanced cheating devices, including altered card-shuffling machines, hidden cameras, and X-ray tables, to defraud wealthy victims out of millions of dollars.

Billups is also accused of receiving a share of the illegal profits, evidenced by $50,000 transfers sent to him after the alleged rigged games. Since his arrest, Billups has pleaded not guilty in court and is currently free on $5 million bond.

Billups' legal woes don't end there. At the time of his arrest, NBA player Terry Rozier was arrested simultaneously for his alleged role in a gambling scheme that's reported to have generated large amounts of money for corrupt bettors.

"Former and current NBA players and coaches, including Terry Rozier, Damon Jones and additional co-conspirators, allegedly informed the defendants and others of confidential information relating to upcoming NBA games and player performances, such as pre-release medical information and a player's intention to alter their upcoming game performance, which favored certain bettors within their inner social circle," an FBI spokesperson said, according to The Blast.

While Billups was not named directly in the second indictment, his profile matches the description of a co-conspirator, according to ESPN, said to be a resident of Oregon, an NBA player from 1997 to 2014, and a head coach since 2021. This co-conspirator is accused of providing non-public information about Portland players during a March 2023 game.

Following his arrest, more news about Billups' past resurfaced, including details surrounding a 1997 sexual assault case in which an unnamed woman accused the NBA player of assaulting her during a night out with other athletes.

According to Boston.com, the woman reported the alleged assault to the police after being examined by professionals at the Boston Medical Center who noted the bruises on her body were "consistent with the plaintiff having been dragged across a rug."

Billups denied the allegations against him, stating he and the victim had consensual sex. He and his former teammate settled the civil lawsuit out of court for an undisclosed amount in 2000.
