Kandi Burruss Moves To Protect Children As Divorce War With Todd Tucker Turns Ugly

Kandi Burruss’ legal war with her ex-husband, Todd Tucker, continues to rage on. However, she is making her kids the priority.

In a new development, the reality TV star has now requested that legal details about her nasty divorce and custody battle be kept away from the public for the sake of the children involved. 

This comes days after Tucker made a shocking move, requesting primary custody of their two children, Blaze and Ace.

Burruss has filed a formal request asking that filings, financial information, and other documents related to her divorce from Tucker be sealed from the public. 

She noted that her request was based on the premise that both she and her ex-partner are “public figures working in the entertainment, television, and film industries.” As such, it would benefit their children if the details of their family’s legal war were kept secret. 

According to US Weekly, the reality TV star’s legal representative said, “It is in the best interests of the minor children that the proceedings and all aspects within be sealed to prevent disclosures on social media, internet, and media at large while the matter is pending before the court and thereafter compromising the integrity of the overall proceedings.”

Notably, Burruss’s former partner, Tucker, has not responded to her request. 

Burruss’ request comes a few days after Tucker made a shocking move, asking the court to grant him primary custody of their two children. 

The film director claimed that his ex-wife would not be able to provide hands-on care for their children due to her busy work schedule and “out-of-state work obligations.”

He argued that Burruss would be away from the kids “for at least the next several months” and, as such, he would like to take over as he claims to have “substantial time and meaningful access to the children,” as reported by The Blast.

In Tucker’s filing, he noted that he recognizes Burruss as a “loving and capable parent” and expressed sincere hope “that prior and continued discussions between the parties will bring full resolution of all matters."

In addition to filing for primary custody of the children, Tucker also requested that the judge invalidate the prenup he signed while getting married to Burruss. He claimed that he signed it in the absence of his legal team and wanted it rendered unenforceable. 

However, Burruss countered her ex-lover’s claims by asking the judge to review tapes from the “RHOA,” spinoff for their wedding, during which they signed the prenup, per The Blast.

Her legal reps referenced a particular time on the show when Tucker allegedly said he had discussed with his lawyers, and it would be good to sign the prenup.

The legal back and forth certainly left the 49-year-old actress feeling overwhelmed, having gone through a plethora of emotions.

According to The Blast, she opened up about how tough the divorce has been on her, noting that her emotions have been all over the place. 

“I really couldn't keep moments to myself when I got upset, so y'all would catch me crying, but real life, my everyday life, I don't really like for those moments to be shared with the world,” she added.

She also revealed that the decision to get divorced didn’t happen overnight because her marriage had been on the rocks for a long time. 

Amid Burruss and Tucker’s legal war, new information surfaced, revealing that the duo was going through a separate legal battle regarding their business before their divorce came to light. 

The former couple’s joint business, Burruss Tucker Restaurant Group, was sued by the landlord of their restaurant, Blaze Steak & Seafood, for allegedly owing thousands of dollars in back rent. 

The Blast confirmed that the landlord sued the former couple’s company for owing $154,139 in back rent and an additional $56,495 for repairs and charges. 

Despite the allegations brought against the business, the company strongly denied the claims and alleged that the landlord leased the premises and removed the restaurant’s signage without proper approval. Court documents revealed that the business also alleged that the restaurant had not been allowed to operate since July 2024. 

In light of the claims, the business then filed for an emergency court hearing against the landlord. However, the landlord requested that it be denied.
