The joyful front Zac Efron’s family showed during Dylan Efron’s “Dancing with the Stars” run looked warm and united, yet it quietly highlighted years of emotional strain the public never saw.

Seeing Zac sitting beside his mother, Starla Baskett, and his father, David Efron, who divorced years ago, felt like a rare moment of peace after a long, painful chapter.

Their smiles seemed real, but the story behind that reunion reveals a complicated family history that the brothers continue to keep private.

What looked like a simple family outing was actually the first time David and Baskett had been seen together publicly in two years.

Their divorce, officially finalized in November 2017, had been messy long before it became public.

The court documents obtained by the Daily Mail revealed disagreements about the date they separated, with Baskett stating March 8, 2015, while David listed February 1, 2014.

In the end, the court accepted Baskett’s date. When the couple split, David quickly moved on and married Jennifer “Jenny” Hnatov, almost 30 years younger, in a private ceremony in San Luis Obispo. They went on to have two young children, Olivia and Henry.

Meanwhile, Baskett stayed single and settled into a $1 million ranch-style home, living about 45 minutes from her ex-husband.

Even with their differences, they showed up for Dylan and Zac Efron at “Dancing with the Stars,” creating a peaceful scene that hadn’t been seen in years.

The divorce wasn’t just emotional, as it also involved major financial decisions that shaped the years that followed.

According to the settlement, David was ordered to pay Baskett $3,700 per month in spousal support, covering retirement benefits as well.

The payments were to continue until “either party’s death, the remarriage of Wife, or modification or termination by further court order.”

Because Baskett never remarried, these payments are believed to still be active today.

In addition, David had to keep her as a $250,000 beneficiary on his life insurance policy and pay $5,000 toward her attorney fees, even though he originally wanted her to cover his.

Baskett also received the marital home, though she later sold the Arroyo Grande property where Zac and Dylan grew up.

The court also ruled that David must pay her an equalization amount of $196,000, increasing it from the original $185,520 to help finalize everything.

A later court order allowed him to pay $126,000 in cash and $70,000 from his retirement savings.

During all of this, Zac Efron, who had already battled addiction, was reportedly “shaken to his core.”

Friends worried the stress would push him into relapse, especially since he had spoken openly about “drinking a lot, way too much” in the past.
