Kim Kardashian has mixed feelings about her controversial Marilyn Monroe gown.

The reality TV star shocked the fashion industry in 2022 when she donned the iconic gown for the annual Met Gala. The theme that year was "In America: An Anthology of Fashion," with Kim believing there was no better tribute than the 1962 gown.

The late Marilyn Monroe donned the gown to sing "Happy Birthday" to President John F. Kennedy. Kim Kardashian went to great lengths to fit into the historic piece; however, if given the chance, she would do things differently.

The latest episode of Hulu's "The Kardashians" captured Kim reflecting on her 2022 Met Gala outfit. She confessed that she wished she had taken a different route that night in the hair department instead of trying to imitate Monroe's iconic blonde hair.

Kim wished she had rocked her natural brunette hair to embody Jackie Kennedy, saying, "We just thought we wanted to be blonde. I should've been, like, dark Jackie O vibes ... [I] photoshopped it 500 different ways after the fact." She admitted that her longtime stylist ended up getting "tortured" for making her blonde.

The Designer Of The Iconic Dress Slammed The TV Personality For Wearing It

While Kim regretted going blonde for the Met Gala, she faced more criticism for wearing Monroe's gown rather than her own hair. The Blast reported in 2022 that the designer of the iconic outfit had slammed her for ruining the history of Monroe's gown.

Bob Mackie, who was 23 when he sketched the gown's design for Jean Louis in 1962, argued that no one was ever meant to wear Monroe's gown but Monroe herself. "I thought it was a big mistake," he said about Kim wearing the gown.

"Marilyn was a goddess. A crazy goddess, but a goddess. She was just fabulous," Mackie recalled. He stressed that the gown was made with Monroe in mind, with the design specifically tailored to her body. His words weren't off the mark as Kim learned the hard way that she wasn't a fit for the gown.

When Kim first tried on Monroe's gown, her voluptuous figure proved to be the biggest challenge as she could barely get it up. Ripley's Believe It Or Not! Museum, which owns the gown, immediately shut down the offer to let Kim wear Monroe's gown.

The TV personality confessed that the rejection stung, claiming she implored the museum to give her three weeks to lose weight. She went on a strict diet, eating the cleanest veggies and protein while cutting out all sugar and carbs.

Additionally, Kim prioritized wearing a sauna suit twice a day, running on the treadmill, and staying dedicated to her weight loss journey. The efforts paid off as she managed to drop several pounds to fit into the dress, but it was too fragile to wear for more than a few minutes.

The designer of Monroe's dress wasn't the only one disappointed by Kim's decision to wear it. The Blast shared that the Marilyn Monroe Collection page accused her of ruining the gown weeks after she donned it at the Met Gala.

The page shared a side-by-side comparison of the gown before and after it was worn by Kim, revealing that several crystals were missing and there were loose threads. Naturally, the damage claims sparked backlash, with many outraged by Kim's alleged actions.

However, the socialite defended herself in an interview, arguing that the dress was never ruined during the brief minutes she had it on her person. She explained that she had worn an imitation dress during the event and only wore Monroe's gown for pictures on the red carpet.

The museum responsible for loaning Kim Monroe's gown backed her claims and denied the damage allegations. The Blast shared that Ripley's VP of Publishing and Licensing, Amanda Joiner, argued that the dress was returned to them in perfect condition.

Chad Michael Morrisette, a Monroe fan, argued that Kim had ruined the iconic gown by trying to fit her voluptuous figure into it. He stressed that he knew every corner of the dress after photographing it several times, and what was returned wasn't its original state.

"The dress was designed to be skin-tight on Monroe's body. The dress's patches and panels have been pulled to the point of being bubbled, ripped, and tattered," Morrisette claimed. On the other hand, Ripley argued that letting Kim wear the gown had introduced a new generation to Monroe.
