Speaking with PEOPLE, Vanderpump opened up about the next season of "Vanderpump Rules," which has been off the air since May 2024.

"The continuation is the essence of working in the restaurant business, and I'm still here and that's obviously the crux of the matter, but the most important thing, always in a show like this, is the relationships and the people and the cohesion, and that's very different," she said.

According to Vanderpump, the new group of SURvers will be unlike the first cast, bringing fresh perspectives to SUR and the Bravo community.

"They're very different people. The world has changed. The world has moved on. I think Gen Z are incredibly different to how young people were 12 years ago," she said.

The former cast of "Vanderpump Rules" featured many heavy hitters who went on to become Bravo favorites, including Ariana Madix, Scheana Shay, Tom Schwartz, Katie Maloney, and even Lala Kent.

However, Vanderpump implied that the show's fans should embrace the emerging rookies, trying to ease viewers' concerns that the show wouldn't live up to the original.

"We would never try to do the same show again," she said. "We've done that. We've moved on."

For those unfamiliar, the original cast of "VPR" appeared on Bravo from 2013 to 2024; however, their bond fractured following Tom Sandoval's affair with Rachel Leviss.

According to Vanderpump, that's the primary reason Bravo scrapped the original cast and started over. "The problems they had in the last cast at the end of Vanderpump Rules, they were much bigger, much more serious," she said.

The new group, though, is living totally different lives.

"... this, these are naughty, young, funny people living their best life. And so it's kind of back to grassroots," she teased.

Much like the original series, the new cast of "Vanderpump Rules" are employees of Vanderpump's, working primarily at her West Hollywood spot SUR Restaurant & Lounge.

They've also been part of Vanderpump's professional family for some time—something the former "RHOBH" star believes will benefit the show.

"So it wasn't like we had to put a cast together and then start shooting it. It's about existing relationships and this group of young people," she said.

Vanderpump clearly has a soft spot for them all, getting candid about the cast's "personal stories" that are sure to touch members of the Bravoverse.

"There's some sadness of what some people have been through and some very surprising facts, but they're a cohesive group," she said.

Bravo first announced the new generation of "Vanderpump Rules" in November 2024.

"What a thrill it is to build on the legacy of this series by doing it all over again," said Alex Baskin, one of the show's executive producers. "With profound appreciation for the original group and their iconic run, we can’t wait for the audience to see a dynamic new group of co-workers and friends make their way through life together."

Vanderpump also reflected on the show's original run, calling it "extraordinary" before noting the "laughter, tears, and everything in between."

"I can’t thank enough those who have shared their lives. How I love you all. In the restaurant business, one shift always gives way to another. Cheers to the next generation of 'Vanderpump Rules,'" she finished.

The new cast features Shayne Davis, Marcus Johnson, Natalie Maguire, Demy Selem, Angelica Jensen, Kim Suarez, Jason Cohen, Venus Brinkley, Audrey Lingle, and Chris Hahn.
